I am back home and should be able to get to some other computers but I voted every day in the best ways I could on vacation.  Something was different today for my voting and it was harder to get to the voting area.  I finally got there thanks to the words "player's choice ballot."

This is an every year process that's more fanfare than substance...great promotion for our local museum.
- I just voted again for the top but I fear it doesn't stand a chance of being selected. It just isn't a popular toy and the folks who vote (based on prior results) overwhelmingly support what they played with as kids. Like most contests it becomes a popularity contest and the criteria fall by the wayside.

USA Today has a big article on the top of page two about the HOF finalists.  There is one good quote in there about our hobby....."These 12 toys represent the wide scope of play - from the simple, traditional spinning top that has been played with since pre-history to the ultra-modern smartphone which has dramatically changed how people of all ages play and connect," said Christopher Bensch, Vice President for collections.

Unbelievable! 

Note that they had already inducted Hot Wheel cars (2011), playing cards (2010), Dungeon and Dragons (2016) and Crayola (1988). Other "toys" that have got inducted in the past are the cardboard box (2005), the stick (2008) and the blanket (2011).

Could the problem be that tops are no longer popular in the US?

Beyblades were super popular with 10 year-olds just a few years ago.
Are still very popular Little Green Army Men (2014), The Game of Life (2010), Lincoln Logs (1999) and View-Master (1999)?
There may be some bias for when the judges were kids.

Rageddy Ann was inducted in 2002 but so that she was not alone, her brother Rageddy Andy was inducted in 2007. Rageddy belongs to Hasbro now, which also has the rights of Magic The Gathering.
If I was Barbie (1998) I would demand that Ken was inducted  But I'm sure Mattel will soon take care of that . . .

It just seemed a little weird that the top was highlighted in a video on their twitter site the day before.

I feel like the committee is a little off base.  I am sure that more people have played with tops than with magic cards.

The one good thing about this is that it could better set things up for next year.  Then proper preparations can be made to have it inducted with Don Olney present along with some of his top displays.

Meanwhile, the top is highlighted quite nicely in a hall of fame that appreciates all the joy it has brought people.
