Javier Caballero has posted photos and information about the new top of Trompos Space (thanks John M. for the heads up), to complement the line of Saturno and Jupiter.  As expected, has the name of another planet, but otherwise it is a big surprise: the body is made of stainless steel! The walls are thin enough (1 mm) that is actually not a heavy top at 55 gr. However, Javier says it is almost indestructible    So is the steel tip (hardened, I imagine). The model name on the side of the body is laser inscribed.

is that an adjustable height internal weight attached to the underside of the cap? because if it is, that's amazingly awesome, that's the coolest thing i've seen in a long time... if that's what it is, you should be able to adjust the tops' precession speed by adjusting the height of the weight, as though it were the pendulum on a clock.

Edit: I'm trying to register at Trompos Space online shop, but I don't have a CIF or whatever it is they require in Spain... My Italian tax registration number won't work... Is there a way to bypass this? Are any of you registered?

Now listed on their site for 30 Euro = $44.10  seems like a crazy good price for this stainless steel body top.  No dimensions listed.



Looking a little more closely at some of the photos, on some of the highly polished steel bodies near the gasket, the reflections have some distortions which looks like there may be circumferential 'wavy' rings.  Perhaps they are using a stamping technique to form the body from flat sheet steel blanks.  The bending and slight stretching of the metal as it is forced into the form could result in small surface variations which the polishing then highlights.  Cleverly, none of the pictures give us a full inside view of the body or where the tip mounts.

It appears that the tip is threaded to accept the center threaded rod. The tip acts as a nut to tighten the whole assembly together.

Now I have a problem: should I get one of the first batch now, with the etched stars (more collectible value as it will become rare) or should I wait and get one with your amazing design? 



I really look forward to trying this top, specially with the cap off. I suspect it will play somewhat differently to other tops.
