I have tops that have a bearing without the nut. You can't put more than .0003 tenths press on the bearing to have it work properly. Then to remove the bearing I had break it then file the ring off. It's better to go with a slip fit and use a nut. I don't like making bearing tops and using them. To me they are more advance, like wire hopers, and stalls etc.

Hi all,
We have go a lot of emails wanting the one way bearings.
We put in a order and we were told a couple of weeks.
They do not stock them and are only made for special orders.
Keep checking the CYYC website

Thanks for the update !

FWIW, I ordered some OWB a while back and couldn't get them to spin freely enough for spin top use--seems like they are not all created equal. I i tried cleaning them and playing them to break 'em in, but they were sticky...Not saying this will be you experience, just saying.

The ones from S8 do not have this problem, so clearly some are good enough :)

Cheers. I cant wait to try these! Need to save a few bucks first.

One Way Bearings (Called Roller Clutches in industry) can be VERY sensitive to shaft diameter. If you read the specs on the bearing and use that shaft diameter then you get a clutch that will be very strong, but alas not free running. If you cheat the shaft size down a very little bit, like 0.0005" or even 0.002" (0.015mm to 0.05mm) then the clutch AKA OWB will run quite freely. Sadly the manufacturer will not tell you how much to reduce the shaft diameter. We sanded with 400 grit and 600 grit sand paper for a project at work and got very free running assemblies. Test it on a shaft that is not an expensive top tip. Be sure the OWB is pressed into the top as this will reduce the optimum shaft diameter. For optimum results sand and test until it runs so free that it does not work. Then back up your time machine about 15 min.

I must say, whoever advised on the design of these tops is a genius. A whole generation of new players will learn upside down play because of me...ahem...I mean because of the person who helped design this top. Plus it regens magically in bearing mode because it is nice and chubby. I think I am in love.

I just got a black one in the mail yesterday ;D. I love the size of this top, and it spins forever! I hope they come out with other tip designs (delrin would be nice so I can throw in my house without damaging my tile floors). Great job CYYC!

^^ Yes. A derlin tip option would be awesome. I picked up a couple of these tops and a pair of extra tips earlier this week and the itch to muck with one of the tips got too overwhelming today. I figured I’d make a conservative first cut that left some of the flat section next to the neck, play it for a bit, and then muck some more if I didn’t like it. But this plays pretty durn nice on the whole – though wirewalkers are incredibly fast when set up fixed – so I might just leave it and try another experiment on one of the other 3 tips next.

Has anyone else tried modifying theirs yet? I’d be very curious to see what designs folks come up with.
