Purchase Consultation
Purchase Consultation
Hi,
I figured I would make this topic generic enough as to be used for everyone.
Anyway, as you might have read in the Canadian Style Volume 2 topic, I ordered an Elec-Trick, and I broke my Duncan Imperial, so I'm looking to replace my fixed tip top. I'm looking for something that spins well, but that is still fairly affordable, as I'm bound to break one or two spin tops again.
I've looked around on the forum, and I've narrowed down my choices to the YoYoFactory Short Circuit and the Cometa Cobra. The Short Circuit comes highly recommended, and was even recommended to me (by Jack!): I can get two for ~USD 21.00. However, I've just discovered the Cobra on eBay, and I can get three for ~ USD 17.00. They seem to come with nifty holsters and they have metal tips, and they also seem well-liked on this forum.
At face value, the Cobras seem to be the better value, but the Short Circuit seems a safer purchase. So, essentially, what I'm asking is what your preferences are between the two, what the Cometa quality control looks like (i.e. the chances of getting duds), what your general impressions are, etc.
Thank you!
~Nocto

Re: Purchase Consultation
My personal opinion, comet are very light tops and of small size more succeeded for children, I recommend Short Circuit, it is my personal opinion
Re: Purchase Consultation
The cobra is vastly more good looking IMO. However if your budget permits only 1 purchase, I would get the YYF.

Re: Purchase Consultation
At $12.00 You can't beat the large SPINTASTIC with C tip. For FIGHTING use the RIPCORD long line. Lot's of FUN.
Re: Purchase Consultation
I love the QSH also it is a great aluminum top for the price. The extra weight is really handy for regenerations. Please note the C tip bends easy and the QSH will require balancing, and you have to use electrical tape to keep the cap on.
I have been using the Short Circuit for a month now and I am very impressed. Smooth, durable, inexpensive (maybe not the shipping for you). If you play over concrete the delrin tip is not going to hold up but the delrin tip makes it a great inside top.
Cobras are great, might require balancing, but yeah they are fun.

Re: Purchase Consultation
So, overall, the Short Circuit is better than the Cobra unless I'm looking to do some outside ground play.

I don't mind having to balance the top, but if electric tape sticks as well (read: bad) to the Quicksilver as it does to the Imperial, I'm not gonna like that.
Thank you.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!trompillo wrote: My personal opinion, comet are very light tops and of small size more succeeded for children, I recommend Short Circuit, it is my personal opinion
I cracked up at the smiley face. It gave what you wrote an air of righteous indignation, haha.Jack wrote: QSH fixed "C" tip

The "C" tip looks super interesting, but as for battle tops, with 120+ Beyblades and counting, I think I'm well set in the battle tops department. Thanks for the suggestion.cecil wrote: At $12.00 You can't beat the large SPINTASTIC with C tip. For FIGHTING use the RIPCORD long line. Lot's of FUN.

Love the size of the Quicksilver Hybrid, and the tip seems really nice. I'll have to consider it, but I still have to learn regens and I'm always dropping my wire walkers: I'm gonna break that tip, guaranteed.Neff wrote: I love the QSH also it is a great aluminum top for the price. As far as tape goes, I only use the vinyl electrical tape manufactured by Scotch (3M). It never wrinkles or creeps. I once bought a package of tape that had like 8 colors that I thought would be cool. Worthless. Find it. Buy it. Use it.

Re: Purchase Consultation
Thanks for the heads-up. I think my Canadian Tire sells some.
By the way--just curious--is the aluminum body on the QSH painted or anodized?

Re: Purchase Consultation
unless youve tasted what is rumored to be the god like balance that neff achieves with sticky tack, you wont notice the imbalance of the qsh at all. the qsh is my workhorse and ive never bothered to alter it in any way, it has dents gouges and scratches and she still spins deliciouslyNocto wrote:

Re: Purchase Consultation
Dear Nocto,
I am actually very curious to see how a "qsh" fares against a beyblade. I suspect that a qsh would beat most beyblades. that is quite a big, BIG beyblade collection.
I wish I could give you advice, but the only fixed tip spintops I have are the QS Fixed tip (NOT THE HORNET), and a duncan imperial.
The QS FIXED (C-TIP) is very good for regenerations, and the duncan is ok for some wirewalkers. I would reccomend something just a little heavier for wire walkers however, if that helps with anything. But that's just my two cents.

From what I gather, the Quicksilver Hybrid (QSH) weighs 85 grams; most Beyblades fall in the range of 30 to 40 grams. Definitely, the QSH would win in pretty much all cases, not only because of its weight, but also because of its perfectly circular shape. Good battle tops need to be imperfect spinning tops, otherwise the battles and the tops themselves wouldn't have the same level of variety.113 wrote: Dear Nocto,

There is one Beyblade series that could--possibly--win against the QSH. Zero-G (Shogun Steel for the international name), part of the Metal Fight series (Metal Fusion/Masters/Fury), introduced Metal Wheels that could be combined in pairs to effectively push the average weight into the 60 to 70 grams range. That's still less than the QSH, but depending on the difference of powers between a thrown QSH and a launched Beyblade, the high customizability of Beyblades and the setting of the battle, there is a slight chance the Beyblade could win, but weight in a spin top battle still tends to trump a lot of things.
Anyway, I just realized I had skipped over your first post in this topic. I still haven't received my Elec-Trick, but was there something specific you wanted to know for when I do?
Re: Purchase Consultation
Lol I appreciate you keeping me in check, my standards may be too high. I think you got lucky with yours though because I have balanced a dozen or so for people over the years and most specimens fell well short of my standards.Jack wrote: unless youve tasted what is rumored to be the god like balance that neff achieves with sticky tack, you wont notice the imbalance of the qsh at all. the qsh is my workhorse and ive never bothered to alter it in any way, it has dents gouges and scratches and she still spins deliciously![]()
Again, I love the QSH, and the price is great for what you get. When it is modded and balanced, it is phenomenal.
