Hey guys, I'm working on my first spintop and I've attached a bad drawing that hopefully will work and make sense. I wanted to make sure that I won't have any design infringement issues. I'm looking at a delrin top with a metal weight ring. The drawing shows how it would be designed basicly to press fit together. Delrin top and bottom with a ring in the middle. Is this how the gates top and the mexican tops are made? Is there a better way to do this?
Thanks,

Spintop weight ring
Re: Spintop weight ring
Yes, that would be the design on the YYJ tops and on some (discontinued) Mexican bearing tops.
I don't know if the famous YYJ patent covers only yo-yos or if it also covers spintops (Kyo probably knows).
The Throwback from YYF also had a weight ring, but it was covered by the cap.
There are many sheet metal antique tops that have the equivalent to a ring at the rim, so I am not sure if such a patent would be valid.
I think a delrin top with weight ring could be a killer design.
