Wonderful document! Thanks for sharing it!

Love the tops! I wonder if the ball is a fruit/nut or if they are turned out of wood. I need to get one.

Intetesting how high

Me, too! Intetesting how high they put the center of mass (CM).

Guessing these are primarily battle tops. In making my own, I discovered that play value in battle depends critically on CM height. Too low, and the top travels too little and scapes the ground too easily after a blow for lack of ground clearance. Too high, and the top is knocked over too easily and has too short an undisturbed spin time.

But there's a sweet spot where the top takes hits but pops right up again, like a Tourenado. Very cool dynamic that I have yet to fully understand.

Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time ... and with spinning tops, we decorate both.

High-CM tops and their odd tendencies discussed here in 2017.

Video posted by Iacopo there...

great presentation by Iacopo! I had missed it
to come back to the video from Madagascar
I find it very moving
from the subtitles and soundtrack :
1st plan
the girl plays with small rocks ,pretending they were dolls
2nd plan
they take some long leaves to make a hairdress for their dolls
they wash the leaves and they it is braided
3rd plan the tops
4 th plan
building mini cars out of wood
at the end one of the wheels breaks

the whole vid is introduced with a text explaining
how children in extreme poverty still strive to have fun

as ludo wrote it's the trailer of a longer documentary
