The guy below me in the pics is Branden Moreau.

I had an amazing time at my first Nationals! It was great to see Jon, Darren and Alan again after moving to Seattle and meeting ta0 SpinQueen and Poptop. The battle was awesome, I lost my voice during it ;D I'm definitely looking forward to coming again next year.

I have no problem with changing the rules of the battle. The whole point originally was to see if we could break each other's tops, and I think that we have proven that we can't. One real disadvantage of the points for damage (aside from breaking the flow, which is a great point) is that it is hard to score with a well-used top. When we started out that wasn't an issue since everyone had a new top anyway, but now with the huge success of the battletop contest, it is a good thing to encourage people to keep coming back.

I would also be ok with eliminating the point for hitting another competitor. The idea there was to be edgy and wild, but it certainly does encourage unsafe throwing, and really what we're all about is spinning tops. Neff's suggestion of rewarding skill with points is a good one.

It's important for all of our fun challenges to evolve, so let's see what everyone thinks, and we'll make some adjustments.

Thanks Mark ;D I in no way want you to think that I'm complaining about your awesome game....just the sucky throws that some players had (including my own) :( The battle top game has proven to stand the test of time and you and McBride have always made it fun. It's one of the big reasons I was looking forward to nationals this year, since I had so much fun with my kids this past summer having many awesome battles....now all I have to do is convert my killer overhand shot throwing a trompo grande to the to those darn snagging bottle cap tops ;)

I find it very satisfying watching powerful accurate throws smash into another tops. I had a great time before the contest throwing with Tonysauce. Tony has a killer throw! >:D

One difficulty we may have with playing over the grass is how to determine if a top that flew out would have actually been spinning. At work, we play with our arena over blacktop and it's easy to see who throws a "Rock" vs. whose top is spinning. We also use the big scoop to add the attempt after point by scooping up our tops and using "The Bomb" to drop them down on the chump top that is left spinning in the arena. I believe this was a traditional method of "old school" play. We could always move the battle top contest to the parking lot of the holiday in at Nats....Finally us spin-top players could take over the place ;)
