Funds raised on the INEPTT project and the future
« on: June 22, 2011, 08:39:23 PM »

On the last raffle we raised a total of $983.72 ($662.03 US and $321.69 from the rest of the world).  Added to the $1,376.99 from the previous two raffles, the total raised so far is $2,360.71.  That is real money!

The committee estimates that $2,500 would be enough to send Chris on the ambitious INEPTT tour so we are only about $140 away from that goal. We can already say the tour is a reality: congratulations to everyone who made it happen!

But there is still one more raffle in the works, with several great prizes, including as first prize a large top that master Alan Gray in the process of making  8) .  So most of the money of the 4th raffle will be used in the next project, that is still to be decided.  If you have ideas for what that could be, please post them here or pm the committee members.  Any project that promotes the hobby and sport of top spinning is valid.

;D Ha!  I'd love to go to Singapore, but we need to spread the love around, eh?  As my graphic arts teacher used to say, E-Neff is E-Neff.  The committee has thrown around a few ideas that I really like, but I won't list them since ta0 didn't , he may be trying to encourage unsolicited answers.

Mike, I am surprised you have not suggested a permanent battle top arena for Topland, made of polished concrete, including bleachers, floodlights for night combat and a digital score board! You should send us your proposal before the city of Chico does . . .  ;D

Chico does not REALLY care about tops or else they would feature them and not make them wait until everything else is done.  Tops come first here in Miamisburg!

As far as permanent fixtures in my backyard, ta0 understands better than I the fact that there are others living in this abode.  I will be setting up "temporary" fixtures for Topland.  This way no one can complain about too many "spinning things in the backyard" all year round.  It is only for one night (this year).

I do like the idea of a digital scoreboard, though!

Thats a great idea, that could be another way to make more $$$, for the INEPTT project and the future, whatever made could be sold at event like Worlds and Nationals ;)

Come on folks,

Chris is correct;  ta0 is trying to get a broader list of suggestions into consideration for future projects.

WE members are the Forum, and WE members all have thoughts on how we can expand and foster the global resurgence and further growth of our Sport and Hobby.

So get those suggestions flowing in.

If you prefer not placing a suggestion in this posting then please PM your suggestions to any one of us:
ta0
Jim in Paris
Chris
Larry D.

All suggestions will be kept in the strictest confidence.

We really, really welcome, and need your input on this.

Larry is right, I am looking for input from the community.  To loosen the brain fluids, here is a list from possible to "over-the-top" (or perhaps not) projects:

7 - Pay the airfare for the highest placed US spintop contestant at Worlds who has never been to Chico to go to Nationals, and vice-versa.
6 - Contract Mark Hayward to build decent trophies for the world contest.  The trophies will be tops with a map of the Earth and set like a world globe. A hidden motor in the base will make the top-globe rotate.
5 - Help John Markus build a mold and machine to make very large tops (12 to 24 inch) by vacuum forming. Whoever wants a top should send John a bag of recycled plastic cut in small pieces.
4 - Get Alan to build one of his humongous paper tops to display either at the Chico yo-yo museum or at the Spinning Top Hall of Fame. Instead of a building on top like the original ones, it could have a little statue of a boy with a pegtop.
3 - Get John Buechele and Spin Queen together to record an original spintop song to post it on itunes. Any profits will be reverted to the cause. Yeah, Mike, you can join them.
2 - Hire models (by definition, top models) to pose with tops so yocephus can assemble the first ever spintop calendar. Then sell the calendar to raise funds.
1 - Pay Takeshi to cut his hair and send it to daveid who will make a glue top out of it and send it to the Hall of Fame.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I added a poll so you can vote on this mock list, just for fun this time.

How about sponsoring a side contest at worlds or nationals similar to the Schreiber shootout that Mike did a few years ago. Possibly giving out tops to all new top spinners. Maybe even something more along the lines of the battle top contests at the Whirled Top Festival in Miamisburg.

i would like to see a video put together for people that do not know how to throw tops, something that would get (yo-yo) people interested , explaining all the various pitfalls that everyone goes through when starting out. it could cover all the things all the new people invariably ask, and move through many tricks, establishing a vocabulary for the various moves and such.
it would be really cool to get some different people in the forum explaining different tricks, but all in the same format.
anyways, then maybe you could sell the vids at events and such, maybe get the cost back? i don't know how any of this actually works.
just some thoughts from a slow learner...
also i think it would be cool to make takeshi a hair-glue top, but not cut it off, you know, something he could wear for a while, then wash out... kinda like marge simpson.

If Takeshi is going to cut his hair I think it should be donated to the folks that make wigs for cancer patients.  Not that a top would not be nice but a top could mean that somebody might not get a wig that would lift their spirits when needed the most.

That is a good idea John. It would be relatively inexpensive (unless the number of interested participants increases considerably). I think it could well be a small side project.

That is actually my pet project and I think the rest of the committee also likes the idea. It may even be something achievable with the extra money raised by the 4th raffle.  It would have several advantages: 1) make the contest more representative of the world level and therefore more deserving of that title, 2) serve to exchange tricks through workshops and the interaction of players, 3) unite more the US and Mexican spintop communities, 4) create some great freestyle videos to promote the sport.  This year's worlds is probably too soon to do it (obtaining US visa, etc), so it would probably have to be for next year.  In my opinion, because of his many contributions to this forum and his incredible skills, Salvador Martinez should be the first option. But if he cannot make it there are several other players (Gustavo, Gerardo, Cuper) I would love to see at worlds.

This is paramount, IMO, however some sort of business needs to be set up if copies are to be sold... not sure how to structure that.
I very much want to be involved in a project like this, however it takes place.

YES!

A giant top at Bird in Hand would be awesome, right next to the giant No-Jive, think of the influence!

And some sort of manufacturing project peaks my interest, vac-u-form tops, or metal tips for RC's or something like that...

Just thougts...

I love the instructional video idea.  From beginner to advanced by some of our world class spinners and teachers.  It would be a big project and maybe profitable as well. :-*
