Mike visited UC for a bit of fun
« on: June 01, 2010, 02:01:38 PM »

Mike Hout dropped in to the physics department again for some hallway play and some outside big top spinning (sorry no pictures).  As always we had a lot of fun and good conversation.

Thanks Mike for bringing the Rascals along they are very cool and the sound cannot be beat.

Have a safe and fun trip to Texas!

Thank you, UC spinners.  It is always shocking to see their progress from the previous visit!  What a thrill to be the first to earn the recycled top award.  Jorge, you will be impressed.  The big reason I wanted to stop by today was so I had it before my visit to San Antonio.  Of course, it is always special to throw the big tops.  I think I am ready for Figaro......I'm just not sure Jorge is ready for me to go solo with his famous big top!!!

An extra treat today was the opportunity to see the new molds for their recycled creations and witness a "revealing".  Wow, how exciting to see the birth of a new top and to see how it all happens.  What is happening at the UC physics department is really amazing.

I am not sure if Figaro is ready for you! Seriously, the bearing tip is not working very well: I'll try to fix it or you will be having quite a workout with a fixed tip!

I look forward to earning a Got Milk top, specially considering the requirements ;)!

Don't worry about that bearing in Figaro.  I am ready to take her for a ride in the fixed mode!

I forgot to mention I was so inspired that I went back to the Miamisburg track and finally made it over 40 hurdles with one throw while holding a top.  I have been stuck at 39 for quite a while.

It's always a pleasure watching Mike show us where we can go in the world of tops.  Hopefully I can hit the minute freestyle the next time he comes around!!

You are so kind, hemingsoft.  I look forward to seeing that minute freestyle.

By the way, can you tell that I am positioning myself to have my 700th post in San Antonio?

I did try a longer spinning top and a new hurdle arrangement today.  I got over 52 hurdles with one throw of the top and then 55 hurdles.  That second one was almost my age!  I will say this, those new spintastics trompo bearings go a lot longer than earlier versions.

Wow, that's like 30% better! you were stuck at 39 for a while you said.  Can you tell what is different about the new Trompo Bearings?

I heard they weren't packed in as much or any grease.  It was obvious from the first time I flicked the tip with my thumb that it was much much better.

edited note: I see I am now just a few posts away from 700.  I will have to pace myself so I don't hit it before I get to Jorgeland.  Modifying old messages like this could help me through!

second edited note:  I just hurdled more than my age.  This was a little harder to do than yesterday because of the calendar.  Anyways, I surprised myself and got 65.

Yeah, we here at Cincinnati remove our bearing and put them in acetone in an ultrasonic bath to clear out the bearings.  Seems to help tremendously.

::EDIT::
Happy B-day Mike!!

Hadn't yet posted a reply to modify, so I'll use a brand new post to say

Happy Birthday Mike!

I've been waiting for something special to do with my 50th post.

Happy Birthday Mike.
