Traveling by plane with tops
« on: May 01, 2023, 10:22:37 AM »

Soon, I will be traveling by plane and I want to take some tops. I am a little leery of having them stolen or lost in a checked bag and was wondering if anyone has experience bringing tops in carry on luggage. I will have a chonkake, a few koma and maybe a trompo. Thanks for any advice.

You shouldn't have problem taking tops in your carry on. Just not take a trumpo or a gasing top with a long nail tip.
In 20 years flying with tops, only Figaro gave me trouble a couple of times.

I carry my tops with me.  I like to pass the time between flights doing a little spinning.  I always bring tops to give away to anyone who shows an interest.  And, I have finger spinners for those too young or timid to throw a spin top.  Also, I have a printout with string wrapping instructions and resource links for people to refer to when they get home.  I've never had any issues with security, but I only carry basic trompos, nothing with long spiky tips.
