Wonderful!  8)

Rodrigo is a great trompo teacher and a very nice guy. He is the force behind the great players coming out of San Vincente de Ferrer.

That's a very nice poster design.
I see that the festival is free and the top turning workshop is just 3 euros.
If it wasn't in winter . . .

I found something that will be of interest to The Earl. The Wikipedia article (in Spanish) about San Vicente Ferrer has a list of the most prominent people coming from that region. The first name is a Vicente Arbeláez Gómez who was archbishop of Bogotá in 1866-1884. That is not a common last name, so I bet Rodrigo is related to him.

hi all !it's coming close...
you know, some years back nobody would care to spread the info about a festival des "toupies" or it would have to be beyblade stuff, whereas today plenty of media are looking for free content...
our best supporter has always been the mayor of Marines and the local council

Wonderful!  8)

I see on that program: "Le manège à toupie". What is that?

By the way, there should be an accent on Rodrigo's last name: Arbeláez.

hi all
we ' re doing good so far, with the schools visits until tomorrow....
the festival will be in full swing on saturday
at noon,
we will receive the "attaché culturel" sent by the colombian embassy
and also a very important person in the world of toys , tops and collecting :
the director of the circus arts museum in paris whom i've already met several times (see my vids)
Didier the jazzman and toupie poet will be here too

the only real difficulty is communication : we're lost in translation with rodrigo !  :D

more news later

high folks ! ;D

it all went smooth during the weekend
Rodrigo performed many great demos with colombian tops,
including one really tiny top which he boomerangs and
get it walk from elbow to wrist...
the big ball'n'cup routine was nice too ,
and this baby weights at around one kilo
besides that  the whole crew (around 12 demonstrators)
have been taught by Mr Liu from Taiwan 2 years ago,
and when it comes to throw tops with 5.5 m ropes in a frisbee on a stool,
it becomes crazy...we hit 6 tops in the target together!!
another fine attraction was jean-do with his pedalling lathe..
his mastering of the "gouge" I mean the chisel is amazing:
he uses only one tool (despite the vibrations from unskilled bikers)
a very sharp hss profiling gouge, and when he feels it would need honing ,
he has 3 spare tools exactly the same already ready,
like these  guitar heroes in the seventies or tennismen
who only usede one same racket/guitar tuned whatever

then,
Cyril "le collectionneur" arrived on saturday at noon!
he had never been to the festival before and you know,
his collection is so huge that he often seems blasé ..
but this time ,he told me "c'est pas mal ton truc !"
later "c'est vraimen bien".. and later  " c'est super cette xpo!"

with ludo : what a reward to hear cyril !!
he spent 2H commenting the various displays and he almost bought a bizarre top from the diabolo museum
it will end into an exchange ..

all in all:
fair /good media coverage
good attendance but some people stranded because lack of road signs
besides the collections the strength of the event relies on a group of
skilled players: ludo and I' s friends who come freely, full board for 4 days
diabolo museum : reno, colin ,thierry ,baptiste
asso welwedj : dorian, emmanuel,mer-mouille,cédric
skill toy boyz:philippe,damien,quentin,thomas ,thiphaine,david

next year we plan JAPAN
and may be Ricardo Cadavero in BRussels ...)

a few  pics later
I had willingly left my camera at home

tomorrow the eiffel tower with rodrigo

Sounds like another year with a great festival!

I did not know that you had such a nice group of demonstrators helping you.

When a Frenchman says more than: "c'est pas mal" (it's not bad) it means that he really like it very much!  ;)

I look forward to the photos!
