Video of my 6" delrin top
« on: April 05, 2016, 04:30:03 PM »

Hey guys.

I made a 6" delrin top. It was a lot more work then the smaller models. Just so much more material to remove.....the time to do it was exponential!

I put together a 4 minute video showing a lot of the steps and the fun that was had while making this top.

Check it out!

Dave

Great job Dave! That's a beauty. Thanks for posting.

Just curious, where do you get your delrin stock?

Really enjoyed that video, Dave. You're a natural narrator. I think a metal tip will also add to the esthetics.

Wonderful top! I hope to try it at worlds  ;)

The video is great! You have a calming voice. You could host a popular youtube channel if you wanted.

Enjoyed seeing that from beginning to end. It looks amazing and I think your plans with the white and black came out very nice. I also agree with your metal tip decision. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Thanks everyone.

It was truly a great experience with a lot of work! I was so surprised how much longer it took to make the 6" verses the 3 and 4 " models.

I just need to perfect the bearing tip section, and get a metal tip and I will be good to go!

Great job Dave! That's a beauty. Thanks for posting.

Just curious, where do you get your delrin stock?

This piece of stock came from a friend......not sure exactly where he got it, but it was a gift to me! I know a chunk like that would be pretty expensive otherwise.

Nice work Dave. I have made a couple of four inch delrin tops and I never want to do that again on a manual lathe. Delrin is just to heavy. With the cnc you can hold the wall thickness to 3/16 max. Then you have a super top. Try making some segmented tops it's fun. The tops are light 13 oz.
