Gasing Bangka
« on: October 30, 2015, 04:46:11 PM »

Here’s a video featuring a Gasing from Bangka Island, Indonesia.  (Just east of Sumatra).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad8iLRYxo9c&feature=youtube

I don’t think this video has been posted previously in the forum.
It is wonderful!  I wish I had every one of them!
Hope you enjoy it.

Nice finds!
The supported start of the gasing from Bangka was surprising.

Although we had seen before the gasing collection in the house with red brick walls of Endi Aras, that video is new and very well done. It seems to pay homage to the Eames film.
It is strange to see what looks like a peg top wrapped around the crown (1:58).
I like that they spin the top with the feathers, because I wasn't sure if it was playable or only a decoration.

It is wonderful!  I wish I had every one of them!
You are not the only one!

The supported start of the gasing from Bangka was surprising.

Safri tells me that the supported start of the Bangka gasing is not original to the gasing.
It's a modification made by him.
He found it to be a more controlled, “safer”,  start when he spins it around his grandsons ages 6 and 4.
