Khiamniungan Naga tribes playing traditional Spintop Games
« on: January 17, 2015, 01:51:05 PM »

Found in Youtube:

They have two different throwing styles: underhand swing for spinning it (I believe tip pointing up) and overhand killer throw.
I have seen similar tops on Ebay.

According to Wikipedia, the Khiamniungan Naga tribes live in the easternmost part of India and northwestern part of Myanmar. The Naga tribes in general were well known headhunters but now are better known for their festivals.

From headhunters to tophunters.

Fascinating video.  Too bad we have so little connection to India on our forum.

The Earl and I have both witnessed a 'Combat' session at an IJA festival, and I think their overhand kill method looks a lot like a 'Combat' session with tops. Winner take all. You against one, two against a bigger top, whatever, its 'Combat'.

Let's take fighting Koma's and kill them all. Then they can do the DEATH DANCE.

Yes lincolnrick, it does remind me of combat in the juggling world.  Whether you like combat with clubs or not, it always draws a crowd and there are always people who want to participate.  Wonder if we can learn anything from this?

The crowd certainly is in it.  And the participants look like they are in it.  There is something special happening here!!!
