2014 Kansas City Juggle Fest
« on: September 10, 2014, 11:11:18 PM »

So, the 2014 Kansas City Juggle Fest is coming up this weekend.  I expect a good deal of top spinning and I am hosting a spin top contest on Sunday.  This is the prize:

I know, I know, I could have at least used a fancier font... maybe next year.

Here is a link to my contest format if anyone is interested:  https://sites.google.com/site/yophosis/spin-top-contest

Team Rootberry (featuring BillB, member of this forum) will be a part of the main show on Saturday Night, I can't wait!

Great that you'll have a spintop contest. I hope you have many competitors. Perhaps next year you can give the winner the option of sending the trophy later, with their name under the armor. I have the feeling this year may be daveid.

It is wonderful that you are meeting Team Rootberry. It should be great fun.

Good luck with your fest and your contest.  Hope it all goes well with lots and lots of participation!

Wish I could be there but we are having the celebration of the 150th anniversary of our building all weekend.  Maybe another year?!

I'm looking forward to a grand gathering of spinners at KC.  See you there.  (By the way, what's the correct term for a gathering of top spinners?  Like a pride of lions, or a murder of crows, etc.)

I'd suggest a whirl of top spinners....

Its sounds like another great KC Festival. I have heard many good reports. Sorry I can't be there. Maybe another year. How about  "a gyration of spinners".

A rotation?
A cycle?
A twist?
An RPM?
A toss?
A fling?

For some reason, mailman's first proposal, a whirl of top spinners, sounds right to me.

Thanks for making this happen Neff!  The contest was loads of fun, with a pretty nice turnout.  I really loved the bottlecap target throw challenge.  I would highly recommend everyone come check out the festival next year.  This was my first, and I was absolutely blown away by the turnout, and the especially the talent.

I'd also like to thank Chris for setting up the entire top throwing experience at the KC fest.  He and Scott brought the Spin Top Chop Shop to life and were the only vendors there that had tops for sale.  I finally am the proud owner of a Diet BK and a modified sidewinder.  I wish I hadn't missed the bottle cap challenge, I don't know where I was.  The ladder competition on Sunday was my first and not my last (I hope), and we even drew a small crowd that cheered us on.  I heard on girl say 'I thought you could only spin them on the floor'.  I do believe she was impressed ;)

I am glad to hear this event went well.

How many jugglers total do you think were at the event?

You had a bottle cap challenge and the ladder.  Any other top competitions?

Did Daveid attend?

I'm not sure of the total count of jugglers, but I would estimate somewhere around 100-150 over the whole weekend.  (I could easily be off)

On Saturday, Chris set up a longest spin challenge, where everyone used the same top.  I managed 2 minutes consistently, and the winner, Nick, blew all of us out of the water at just short of 2:30.  Nick was actually the first case I have found of someone competing with one of my MicroTops.  He's managed to pull off a lot of amazing tricks that I can't do with a full size top.

Daveid was there providing his normal, unique conversation, but did not compete in the ladder competition.
