hello Dick

stunning set of pictures !!this idea of a fade , a jump in time, works really well

last friday D DAY , i did my own celebration in class
one group was treated with the first 25 mn of the movie "Soldier Ryan"
and another got to watch "G I Blues" which is one of the best Elvis Presley's movies
the following debates took 2 different directions
Q :what does the word hero mean? A: he is capable to sacrifice his life for his ideal ...etc ///
with GI blues we talked about the image of American soldiers in movies of the after war period.....everything changed with the VN war and Apocalypse Now//////
good response from students

i still can't help tears coming to my eyes when i drive by the cemeteries in Normandy...my dad (arrested in 43 in Nancy)was deported at Matthausen at that time , was liberated only in 45

let's not forget

Thank you, Dick, for those touching photos.  It must have been quite a time in history.  We have a number of older folks who share amazing stories.

Thanks Jim for your stories.  I did not know about your dad.

Now my dream of getting to France has changed a bit as I want to see Paris again but also Normandy!

My boss is returning from Normandy tomorrow.  I expect he will have many stories to tell about the celebration.  This is his second trip Normandy. (He also liked the photos)
