Well here it tis my first hollow form top. comments welcome shape, finish, etc.  looking for a bearing tip for it and I need to make a string what dia. for the string a roughly how long for a top that is 5.5" by 6.75"

Very nice!  You will not find an acceptable bearing tip for that size of top, you will have to make one.  The biggest (and best) you can buy is the S8 tip assembly (can get here) but it will be too small IMO.  Making a bearing tip from scratch is 37 times harder than making a fixed tip from scratch.  A top of that size would regenerate well with a fixed tip...

I have some pointers on making a fixed tip on a wood lathe if you are interested.

I have a guess on how thick the string would need to be and could make you one for a few bucks.

Oh my goodness that is a beautiful top.
All these wood top pictures make me want to get a lathe somehow and take a swing at it!

Good luck. I'm always trying new string. When I was taking a machine shop class I would make my tips for the bearings. That is a pain. I don't miss that. I've used a 5/8 bearing on the bottom and a 7/16 bearing on the top with a long shaft. It's fun and your'e doing something new.
