I thought of a Poll to make, so this is it.

I'm pretty sure I've heard other top spinners talk about having this experience, so I think I'm not the only one who's been asked that question, i just thought it'd be a nice poll to start...

(i'm going to be very embarrassed if this has already been done)

yep! Had that one! ;D

I haven't had the dreidel question but I would think that I would be more likely to if I used wooden tops.

I think a S8 Giulia doesn't bring the word dreidel to mind as much as a small wooden top might.

I have had something along the lines of "is that a yoyo?" and i've even had one person in a confused almost disappointed tone proclaim "that's not a yoyo!"

I've been asked if it was a dreidel, but most of the time I get the "what is that?!" one...
From time to time people of a certain age recognize the shape as a top, but get confused as to why I am not letting it touch the ground, because "that's the point, isn't it?!"  ;D

I guess its kind of like yoyo.

Some people would rather see "walk the dog" than an extremely difficult combo!

Funny comments always seem to surround tops.  People are amazed at the most basic tricks.  Now that I can do a merry-go-round (only once around and back to my hand) the "Oh wow" factor is really high.  With an audience I throw a top to the ground, then sky rocket. Boomerangs follow. People seem to get the idea, top on the ground - top in the hand - skip the ground.  Plus it is more impressive at my skill level since a miss is more forgivable if it is not the first throw.

Do I have my history correct? Duncan held the trademark on yoyo. All other makers used the term "return top."
So a yoyo was a kind of top. Now a top is a kind of yoyo.

I would rather just see people put their yoyo away. I guess 2a is okay.

If it hadn't been been for me spotting the Duncan BK top when I went to buy my new yoyo I'd most likely never have started playing with them. Which lead to my niece and two nephews playing with them. Oh yea, my brother-in-law was out in the yard with us a few Saturdays ago and played long enough to catch a boomerang.

Tops or yoyo. Skill toys are fun. :)
