game of tops
« on: June 11, 2012, 02:14:40 AM »

hi folks , i have put together some ideas for a future game of tops
here is the 1st draft of rules and a short vid (of poor quality) just to show the "board"

multiple players game for 2 to 4 players /max of 3 tops each
1 referee /1 list of mixed type tricks
goal :  trying to stay alive, to get rid of all other tops

throw tops alternatively from the launch pad zone
if a top goes in the la Terra zone it is safe
in any other place it can be attacked
if a top goes in La Luna zone and stays for 10 sec, it can be thrown again
if a top goes to hyper space zone ,and dies there , it can be thrown again
if a top goes to black hole zone, the top is removed and the player must perform a given trick ..in case of success he can enter one more top in the game
if he misses he loses his top

the player may take the tops back in hand (scoop or rocket)
the player may use the string to drive his top in any direction
the player may tap the top to move it
all this : as long as the top is spinning

....rules to be finalized

Hey Jim, I like your initiative to create a new top game.  I guess I would need to know more rules to really understand it.  But I am guessing that with that large "safe" landing area, players with practice would never get in jeopardy.

One day we may organize a contest to see who comes up with the best new top game and then we could try the one(s) with more votes at a meeting like worlds or nats.  Topland could be a good testing place.  Who knows, one game may become a classic and advance spintop culture  :)

I like it Jim!  A great game for somewhat jittery tops that dance around a little.  I think the concept is solid.

gameoftop2 additional rules
to design the board
choose the appropriate area with enough room
have a chalk ready
throw a top
1 st hit is the center of Terra
draw a circle diametre 5 feet
2nd hit is the center of luna
draw a circle tangent to terra's center
do the same to draw hyper space , tangent to luna's center
and black hole area, tangent to hyper space

wipe out the secondary lines to obtain the board

the launching pad is 6 feet away from the main circle

Thanks for the topland plug, ta0.  I am happy to report that the topland dream is still alive and kicking.  It just received a big power wash and looks much better (although my legs are quite exhausted from all the work).  Sadly, the wood is too uneven for Jim's game.  We in Miamisburg will have to try it at some other location.

Whatever happened to that big top game a guy was promoting a few years ago?  He tried to get ta0 to set it up in San Antonio and when he suggested the Miamisburg fest I never heard anything more about it.
