« on: May 22, 2012, 11:49:44 AM »

dear all
bad news :our visit to Lourens..planned in June is cancelled
Ludo has just got an unexpected contract at the same dates (15-17 june)
and of course he can't let it go, considering the hard times for independent entrepreneurs ..
well, the dream of visiting Lourens Bas is still on and that's a great enjoyment...I'm back in THE BOOK to prepare some nasty questions....lourens just told me that we can plan a date in autumn ;) ;)

ciao for now

Sorry to hear you have to post pone this trip.

Where abouts does Lourens live?  I lived in the Netherlands for about 2 years as a student back in 1984-6.  I lived in the following areas: Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Bussum, Utrecht, Almelo and Nijmegen and visited as far north as Groningen and south to Maastricht.  I used to be pretty fluent in Dutch "maar mijn Nederlanse is erg slecht geworden"

Well, I guess you have something to look forward to in Autumn...and that much more time to come up with deep and insightful questions to ask for all of us!

??Where abouts does Lourens live?
it's no secret , so i reveal it
Lourens lives in Hoorn , North of Amsterdam , not far from the Frisian Islands ... we had planned an environmental-friendly train ride to Dam and then commute to a local line...I just got the ticket refund !! :(

Thanks Jim.  I am glad that you were able to get your tickets refunded.

I was in Alkmaar but never in Hoorn. I was looking up the city of Hoorn online.  Is Lourens connected with the "Speelgoedmuseum De Kijkdoos" (Toy Museum Kijkdoos) there?

Hi all of you. Indeed I live in Hoorn, a very old town at the biggest lake in the Netherlands: IJsselmeer ('meer' means lake). A lot of the houses along the historic harbour and in the centre of the city are monuments, just like the one my wife and I live. It is from the early 1600. During the past 45 years I have not only been involved with spinning tops but also woth collecting / dealing in antique toys and dolls and my house is a perfect environment for this!
Jochs: your Dutch is very well considering that you have been here for only two years and so long ago! The toymuseum 'De Kijkdoos' you mention has been designed by me and in 1994 I have built it with the owner. After some years of making very nice exhibitions I ended participating in 2002 / 2003. But it is still there.
Everyone who is planning a trip to Europe or The Netherlands: you are welcome to pay a visit! But of course: Jim and Ludo first!!!
Warm (it is very nice weather in Hoorn!) regards, Lourens

Salut Lourens !!

I have visited the website : it's been a pleasure

one thing we have already discussed here is this sentence :
Even though the top and the games played with it have a rich history, it seems as if their evolution during thousands of years has now come to a standstill and that the game of playing with tops, both indoors and out on the streets, has become a thing of the past.
we,the players from around the world, regularly post pictures and videos showing that tops are still around on the 5 continents...
 ;) ;)
about the books : i was glad to see your other productions

cheers
