Mexican top gallery I: 5 Estrellas
« on: August 27, 2009, 12:44:20 AM »

Salvador sent me close to 70 pictures of Mexican tops he has available for sale. Most of the models are discontinued. I decided to take advantage of this to make a gallery of Mexican tops. This is the first page, all by the manufacturer 5 Estrellas. It seems all the tops are branded Holo-Trompo. This is a draft, eventually the page will have more information and probably even more tops.

Mexican Tops: 5 Estrellas - Holo Trompo

If you see a top you want, email me or Salvador to join the order.

Wow, all very cool looking.  What is the red thing inside top # 2 and top #5 (from the left) ?  Is that just some sort of reflection?

Those are the plastic rings to put around the crown for throwing, like in the Duncan Imperial.

As things go, just after I posted this, I found a message from Salvador that he may not have the tops for sale anymore . . . Anyway, I'll continue posting the rest of the brands.

oh la la great gallery !

they all look so cooooll !
the "turbo 2 nd gen " you gave me at the hotel when you left
is a blast : it outspins most of the other regular bearing tops
it's like a top dog but a little lighter

i'm sure they would go like hot cakes if they were sold in on-line shops

as for ordering from salvador, i'll try and contact pulp to have a shipment here in europe

good day

I uploaded the photos for 3 more brands.

Gallery of Mexican Tops II: Cometa, Alien, Extrem

Still missing Premier, Super Trompo, etc.
These are drafts of the pages that will eventually make the Mexican section of the virtual museum.

=======
Update:

Finished uploading. The URL for the 3rd page is:

Gallery of Mexican tops III: Premier, Super Trompo and other brands.

=====

Update II: Put up some posters and linked to the rest of the site. Enjoy!

Good news: Salvador confirmed he does have the tops for sale. I already have some of the tops. The Premier tops were sold by Infinite Illusions circa 2000. Pulp sent me several Cometa (thanks!) And when I visited baldufado in Madrid I bought from him a Turbo Ultra, Turbo Animal World, Ultra, Alien and Holo-Light (he had got them from Salvador). Funny, many of them boomeranged from Mexico to Texas passing by Spain   ::)

For example, it seems the 5 Estrellas Ultra is the one Gerardo uses in all his videos. Being accustomed to my heavy and large tops, the Ultra (as well as the other tops except the Premier Jumbo) feels too light and small. In addition the string is really short compared to the ones we use and has the plastic ring attached to the end. But the Ultra does walk pretty well on the string and I can see with practice it would be a good top. By the way, the string on mine is dyed so half the length is white and half yellow.

I now have doubts about which Turbo is the 1st generation and which one is 2nd. From one of the comments on a picture Salvador sent me, yours may be 1st not 2nd gen, Jim.

Maybe a Super Trompo and an Alien are good for me, Salvador can select two good players for me.

I own an Ultra's 5 estrellas and play quite well. The plastic is a bit gummy and has a good grip for "the automatic trick".

The light one is cute and funny to play.

I wish a Jumbo.

I hope good news from Salvador in the future. Of course, Jim, tell me what you want for the next days.

Soon, with Ta0, you can get much of these tops (I say much, and not "all" because many of them are discontinued, out of production) I think are specially acquireble fo a collectible top, for a collection.

I am going to get a box of Mexican tops from Salvador in the next few weeks. Several brands and many models. There should be enough for everybody (and then some). More info and photos when I get them.

I included only one Special Spin. Later, If really you like it, I can send you more. I hope you will increase the photos of this gallery, because a lot of models are in the box, models that you have not yet seen, and very nice, by  the way.

Yes, I will update the gallery with new photos when I receive them and give the gallery a more consistent look.

I am glad you got the Trompos without problem. I am curious to hear what you think about their playability.  I am sending the QS in the next few days.
