« on: January 01, 2016, 07:11:24 PM »

The website for the World Yo-Yo + Spintop Contest is now active:

http://worlds16.com/

The Spintop competition is listed on the schedule:

Friday 5, 2016, 11:00-12:00 PM: Spintop Prelims
Friday 5, 2016, 5:00 - 5:30 PM: Spintop Freestyles
Friday 5, 2016, 6:30 Spintop Awards

I now know exactly how many days I have before relinquishing the title . . .

The contest takes place at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.

You are permanently the 2015 champ.  Your 2 championships are your forever legacy.  The cool thing about a legacy is that you get to pass it on and keep it. (unlike cake)

As I assume there will be plenty of competitors, I will be a judge. I can always take it back in Sydney 2021  :P

There has not been a yo-yo ladder, much less a spintop ladder, the last two years.
So there won't be a sport ladder listed on the event.
However, we can organize one ourselves. It might not be on stage, but if ITSA certifies it, it will be OFFICIAL!   ;)
So I say that if there are enough people interested we can have it. And if we know in advance we can have medals . . .

I doubt that I will be able to freestyle by then, but I would like to participate.

You just need to convince a few more. I imagine Shootist would participate. Rachel? Some of the guys who went to Miamisburg this year?

The month of May is almost here and it is time to prepare for worlds, August 3-6 (spintop freestyles Friday 5). Website: www.worlds16.com.
I confess I have been procrastinating this year (but I am not competing, so I have an excuse).

If your are competing: registration fees increase every month! This year spintop competitors pay the same as yo-yo players, no more special fees. The general competitor fees are:

Until March 31st – $45 USD
– Until April 30th – $65 USD
– Until May 31st – $90 USD
– Until June 30th – $120 USD
– Until July 15th – $155 USD
– At the event – $200 USD

In addition, there is a $50 for the spintop freestyle. So I suggest you register this week (65+50= $115).

The official hotel of the contest is pretty expensive ($169 a night including taxes) but four people can share a room for the same price, so it comes to $42 per person per night. Is anybody interested in this? Of course, there are much more economic lodging options around but I have not yet investigated: any suggestions?

Yep. But fortunately there are many possible competitors who are at driving distance: the Earl, John Buechele, Mark Hayward, Mike Durdak, Takeshi . . . Even Neff could perhaps drive all the way there.

I know that Eli Hickerson has registered. Who else?

Was debating making a proposal for sound production for the event.

Yeah, not liking the rising cost schedule. It's honestly too far out for people to be registering in my opinion but I'm OK with that. But, if you really qualify later on and you decide to enter... seems too cash-grabby to me.

I'm only going if I'm running sound production and they'd need to provide the room(and fly me out). Of course I will have tops and yoyos on me if I go. Heck, I typically have some on me anyways every day.

Well I have to say that I'm not happy with the prices, I paid $45.00 for my Spectator Pass, $115.00 for Eli's Spintop Competitor fees, another $115.00 for Austen's Spintop Competitor fees, then the expense of the hotel room.  Keep in mind these fees go up the Longer your wait to Register for the Event.

But what I have never understood (As their Customer) why hotels charges $27.00 a day to Park your car on their property.
