Poll: where do you place the button?
« on: July 06, 2015, 04:04:23 PM »

 colourful design!

what is the significance of the string being held between the first and second fingers instead of 2nd and 3rd like usual???

jack : the string being held between the first and second fingers

that's part of Salvador's lectures
and it does make a difference for fix tip small tops and jumbo  too
i don't do it for bearing tops, though

I've always held the string between my index and middle fingers.  Is there some reason I should change?

I have always held the string between the middle and ring finger for all tops, large/small, fixed/bearing, whatever.

I hold my button between index and middle finger, that's why I drew it like that  :D
I guess close to half of the players (who use a button) do it that way and the other half between middle and ring finger. But I have known at least one player who put the button between ring finger and little finger!

Oh, the debate rages on.  While the TujLub players wonder what a string is for. :)

Hmmm, Jim, Why not for bearing tops, I wonder.
I am not surprised that Salvador has researched this.  I guess I will need to throw some the "wrong way" to better understand.

I would think that it has something to do with how you hold the wound top. I guess that you would want the string to come off of the top and go straight through the fingers and not go up or down from the upper wrap. Or maybe it is best to continue to do it as you learned it and be comfortable. Which would indicate that there is no right or wrong way, just what ever works best for you.

So, Salvador says it is good to use the button between the first and second finger?

according to what Salvador said when he was teaching ludo and I

the index finger is the one you use when pointing at something
it's more accurate
on most tops the winding finishes exactly between index and major
with the button in this position you can obtain harder throws

each player has his own habits anyway.. ;)

I always between the small finger and the previous one, I do not know anybody who uses it this way, but not to be played otherwise

Thanks John for reminding me about that old poll (which was even between index-middle and middle-ring players).

We now know of two (original? weird?) ring-little finger guys: trompillo and PPLGrande.

I've tried the button and string between the index and middle finger.
I've also tried the button and string between the middle and ring finger.

For me, I am getting better results going between the middle and ring finger. It feels more comfortable for me.

So, is Mr. Monarc putting it between his first finger and his middle finger?  It looks like that but it is a little fuzzy to me.
