Top Spinning Tree Removal Crew
« on: December 07, 2012, 04:04:56 PM »

Now that we recouped after Hurricane Sandy my wife and I decided to have four 75-80' trees removed which were in close proximity to our house.  The five man crew came over today.  I took a few photos during one of their breaks...The crew, from Honduras, were so surprised to see a top, they were thrilled!  You should have seen the elation when they realized that the tops they were playing with were for them to keep!
Hope you like the photos.

Very nice!
It looks like they could boomerang the tops. I am sure it made their day!
They will remember Don Quixote's house  ;)

Yes, ta0, each of them could boomerang, they threw it point down.
Each of them removed the buttons for play.
There were lots of big scoops, sky rockets and arm walkers happening too.
It was nice hearing of the tops they played with back home, made of wood, and of their love and memories of battle top play.
Most of the crew have been in the U.S.  for about 4 years now and they all said that this was the first time they had seen a top since coming here.
I so enjoyed those breaks and all the smiles and laughter!  :)

Great stories, Larry D.  Very exciting to hear how you were a link to their past and their childhood memories!

Thanks for sharing.

Larry you are absolutely amazing... working tops into every situation!
Great pix.
I bet that crew will never forget you.

(Hopefully you weren't being charged by the hour?)

Looks like fun.  Did you get to keep some of the wood to make more tops?

No, the wood is gone Dick.
I did save some sections of branches and some thin rounds.
I'll use the branch sections to make some of my "Custom Buttons" and the rounds to make display stands for a set or two.
I don't have a lathe and I never really gave thought to actually making tops.
Perhaps in the future?  (Hummm...I still have plenty of trees on my property.  :))

Ha!  That "paid by the hour" comment got me to thinking.  If you did pay them by the hour does that mean you were paying them to throw tops?

"paid by the hour" ?
:) It was a fixed price job.

Jorge (the guy in the single photo) was the Foreman and managed every aspect until "The Boss" showed up towards the end of the job.
There were plenty of breaks until Joe (The Boss) arrived.  :D
When cleanup completed even Joe gave spinning a try.

How is it that guys named Jorge always seem to be good spinners?  ???
