It national Tau day! (math)
« on: June 28, 2011, 02:22:58 PM »

We all know that March 14 (3.14) was national Pi day, so it it's only natural that today (6.28) is national Tau day. Twice the math fun, Tau is approximately 6.28 and is the ratio of circumference to radius of a circle (common knowledge, right?)

Any way, happy Tau day, Ta0 and everyone else.

I had never before heard of 2PI being called tau, much less of national tau day. But I like the idea of getting rid of the 2 in the most famous equation for the circle, so I am all for tau. And the national Tau day sounds almost right  ;D ;D

Ha! Good one Jim!  ;D
It took me a day to get it!  A French trying to read 2Pi may say "two -pea" like in toupie!  (no, not "to pee", he is a top spinner after all).

(to clarify to those who are non-English speakers, the number Pi is pronounced like apple pie)

Pi Day
« Reply #4 on: March 14, 2018, 12:01:58 PM »

Ok, today is March 14th, Pi day (by American weird custom of ordering the date with month first and day second).

Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day, 1879.
Today, Stephen Hawking, another great physicist, died.  RIP.
