I will consider using it as my icon.
It does not rotate too much, as when one of the layers moves it loses stability and deforms during the rotation.
As Jeremy McCreary says it is all engineering work, hence a new project.
Internally it is just like any other conventional Rubik's cube.
As a puzzle it has an easy-medium difficulty, this due to the fact that some pieces are repeated.

Thanks a lot for the files! I will start printing it this weekend.
I'll probably use PETG and ABS of different colors.

You are welcome. That sounds great, hope to see your printed version soon

This is a video of Zenith showing the Spinning top - Rubik in operation.

I thank Zenith for this video (especially for the trick I perform), also I attach a few seconds where I perform the alternating pattern.

The link to the Instagram video seems to be broken.
It sounds that Zenith may have thrown it as a top.
I just started printing mine.

Yes, apparently it was not uploaded correctly.
You can search for the video on his Instagram:

Great!
I could watch the video. But maybe you could move it to YouTube? I guess old farts like me deal easier with that platform.
The orange version looks stable and good to throw, the grey version seems to turn in a smoother fashion. Lets see if ta0 comes up with one that can do both.
Congratulations again Patricio on finishing this great project!

the link of the video, it took time and I don't know how to get it to look. I thank my colleague for letting me try the puzzle spinning top. I really liked it, I have enjoyed making and assembling the top. I think you will all like it because it is a top and also because of the puzzle it is very entertaining. When doing boomerang at first it vibrates a little but later due to the turn, it remains very stable, the tip is what does not help to do tricks, but the solution is being sought. I like puzzles and I have been very satisfied.

That's wonderful!
Good print, Zenith. You beat me to the boomerang!

It looks pretty stable.
I think, Patricio, that you should continue to optimize it and make it a commercial product.

Thank you very much for your comments.

All the time invested in this project has paid off.
I am very happy with the result, I did not expect Zenith to be able to make a Boomerang with the puzzle, it is more than I expected.
With Zenith I am improving the spinning of the top, mainly to be able to do more tricks and also to make it as stable as possible.

I finished printing the 27 pieces and assembled the top (without the springs):
I used white ABS for the tip and crown, and the rest of the pieces I printed in orange, blue (PETG) and yellow (PLA). Note that each piece, besides the tip and crown, comes as three copies (6 faces + 8 corners + 12 edges = 26 = 2 + 3 x 8 ).
It spun well on the floor. But when I tried to boomerang it, I forgot that with the wide neck of the tip I had to pull harder: it flew away, crashed on the hard floor and 3 pieces (all PETG) broke

. So now I need to reprint them. I guess I also need to get springs, although they don't seem indispensable.
It worked better than I expected as a puzzle, without having to sand the pieces. It seems to me that with my color scheme, the puzzle is completely equivalent to a 3x3 Rubik cube as all the pieces can go in just one place, given their shape and color. So the difficulty to solve it would be the same as that of the original Rubik cube.

I wish I had a 3d printer. Recently I have really been getting into rubik's cube puzzles. Is their a chance I could purchase one from someone who printed it already?

Maybe it would be even harder, the orientation of the centers is at least in parts visible, not?

That's right!

The orientation of the upper 3 centers is visible (the other three are symmetric).
This should definitely become a commercial puzzle.

Looks great

, very nice color combination, sorry it broke. I would appreciate if you could upload more pictures and/or some video.
Regarding the difficulty, indeed, it is reduced if you separate the layers by colors.
I have no problem to share the file if you send me an email. But I could not provide you with a copy, since I don't have the printer and I would have several costs for the same reason.
On the other hand I can ask a member of the TwistyPuzzle community to produce some copies in his personal store.
