Mexico City 2025 World Contest
Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
Just two and a half weeks until the world contest! So exciting!
The rules are now translated in Spanish: https://spintops.org/es/rules-world-mexico-2025/
There has been a change in the Youth (or Light) Division. Now that we have a better idea of the number of competitors for this division we have decided to increase the duration from 1 minute to 1.5 minutes. All the registrations for this division are from Mexico and they are asking for this.
The deadlines for registration, to send music and for artistic division sample videos have changed a little.
Registration deadlines:
Open Division: October 3
Artistic Division: September 29
Youth (Light) Division: we will accept registrations as long as slots are left, up to 10AM on Saturday 11th at the venue.
Music deadlines:
Open Division: October 7th
Artistic Division: September 30th

The world contest is almost upon us!
You can see the people registered to compete here:
I did register for Artistic, but I have no time to prepare so you will have to wait until next year. I do have what I think it's a fun idea and I already acquired most of the props needed . . .
Thanks to the commercial sponsors:

Bronze

Who are the judges?
Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
Open: Jorge Alcoz, Gustavo Castro, Dale Oliver/Val Oliver
Artistic: Jun Shimamura, Wilson Gomez, Val Oliver, Paul Stewart, Josué Sierra, Gianni Cassalino, Clown Artist (don't have his name)
Youth: Jorge Alcoz, Gustavo Castro, Dale Oliver/Val Oliver, plus TBD
Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
To Be Define right?
Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
TBD: to be determined
Chris García, the diabolist who competed in tops in Iceland, is in the festival in Guadalaja and will probably come to Mexico City. He will be a judge in Artistic, unless he competes (I'm trying to convince him to represent the USA).
Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
I will join the judges of the youth division.
Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
Thanks for the help, Jun!
Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
The Youth and Artistic divisions will not have prelims.
The finals for Youth are Saturday and the finals for Artistic are Sunday.
For Open we will have prelims on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
There are currently 34 competitors registered for Open.
8 are pre-qualified for finals: the international players and those who placed in the first 20 in Open of the 2025 online contest.
8 more will qualify in the prelims.

Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
I'm in Mexico City!
For me this was a shorter trip than my usual spintop adventures. No connections, just 2 hours flight. It's a pity that more US players didn't take advantage.
I'm at the official hotel. Later today, Paul Stewart from USA, Gianni Casalino from Italy and Raul Beron from Argentina will arrive to the hotel. The Chido crew will also come by. And the spinning will begin!

There must be a top spinner in this room:

Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
I'm sorry for the lack of reporting. Too busy having fun!
I'll be adding photos later.
Monday I met Valentin and Matías from Nutar, Raul Beron from Argentina, Paul Stewart, Gianni, and the Chido crew: Eleazar, Josué and Monse.
I got to visit 2 of the 3 places where the tops are made, the injection mold inserts and the design/3D printing. We ended the day eating tacos at a place with a "trompo" grill, of course.
Tuesday I got to see the main plant where Chido Trompos are made. Eleazar Sierra built the factory one machine at a time, restoring and adapting them with his own hands, converting manual machine into CNC machines, etc, etc. I'm very impressed with what he has been able to accomplish.
Later a group of us visited the huge museum of anthropology wich is magnificent but has no examples of tops.
Wednesday it was raining, so it wasn't good to visit the pyramids. Raúl, Gianni and I decided to go to the museum of antique toys. Fascinating place, and not only because we found tops. You'll see when I post photos.
At night I met with Salvador. The same guy who I remembered, except for the short hair. We had a blast!

Re: Mexico City 2025 World Contest
Yesterday the Japanese arrived.
Taka and I went to see the new Cometa factory in Cuernavaca (wow!!!) while the rest went sightseeing in a tour bus provided by the organizers.
After dinner we took a conference room in the hotel and the Japanese started to practice hard, like only them can do. Kanta looked fresh, with no jetlag! I got to see ichi's new extended artístic routine and he is going to give a lot of competition to the professionals.
Today we will be at the venue, installing everything, doing the rehearsals for artistic and practicing playing and judging.
