Rule proposal for in-person World contest

New proposal for handling Open and Traditional divisions

I'm thinking that the players of both divisions, Open and Traditional, could freestyle together.
A player will only be able to do one routine, so they will register for either Open or Traditional division, depending on the tops used. This will avoid highly repetitive routines by the same player.
Those playing with traditional tops will be eligible, if they so wish, also for the Open division title. So their scores will be normalized two times: 90 tech / 10 perf for the Open Division and 70 tech / 30 Perf for the Traditional Division. The advantage is that you can potentially win 2 titles with one routine. The disadvantage is that it's more difficult to compete with traditional tops. Those doing heavy artistic traditional routines might prefer not to be considered for the Open division as they may rank low on that list.

What do you think?

hi all
So in one routine you could win both titles I don't think it will work
To me, traditionnal should stay traditionnal where's the play style ,the scenery the artistic points and representing a culture of a country are the core of the judging

we should debate it with judges and maybe the board or Let's Stay like we are
good day

I don't agree with ta0.
It's true that the player who wants to register both division must make two routines that this is their own decision. Because of the different ratio of technical to performance, it is so difficult to win the two division title with one routine. If the players want to win the both divisions, they should make two routines for each divisions. If I wanted to win two divisions, I would have wanted to make two routines.
We should consider the reason why we have traditional division. Is it just for wooden tops? If so, we should change the name of the traditional division into "wooden division." In terms of "traditional," I agree with Jim.
I my opinion, the open division should emphasis on the technical like sport. The traditional division should emphasis on the performance like AP division in yoyo world contest.

one question
In the open division, the ratio of technical to performance is 90:10? not 85:15?

I think Jun has a good point. Defining the intent of each category so there is clear strategy in the construction of a routine. This would be help to both player and judge.

You are correct, sorry. The current ratio for Open is 85:15

I think Jim, Jun and Jose have good points.

I was thinking about the change because the guys from Mallorca play wooden solid tops almost as well as hollow tops and can perform similar technical routines with both. Perhaps we need to sharpen the way of assigning artistic points to make their scores more different between the two divisions.

Historically, the traditional division was introduced when we got a group of Colombian players participating at worlds with large wooden tops. Their traditional style of play was too slow to be competitive with the spintop players. It was reinstated when Miki competed with a Chonkake for the 2nd time, for the same reason. Then we added the artistic aspect to it, making it a traditional (wooden)/artistic division. But Guillem broke the expectations when he won open with a top that qualified as traditional.

Ok, I agree in keeping them separate and let players participate on both by doing 2 routines.

Please, pre-register if you think you will compete. It helps us plan.

If you would like to take advantage of the apartments ITSA reserved, please inform me as soon as possible. The best experience is if you stay with the other players. Most people are staying 17th to 21st, but some arrive the 15th and others leave the 23rd.

Please, pre-register for worlds online. It will help us plan better.

It's the best time to buy your airplane tickets right now. In two weeks airfares will increase. There are tickets from New York to Palma de Mallorca on those days for $500!

Almost a month until Mallorca! It's not too late to decide to come, either as competitor or just to have fun at the festival. It's going to be epic!
You can still find good airfares from the US to Palma. We have a few spots left at the official lodging.

The day of the contest we will have full moon. Average temperature that day is 72F/22C max and 53F/12C min.

Only 24 days until worlds!

I'm going to release the apartments not reserved unless I hear from somebody else right away. We have taken 4 apartments at Port Pollensa. There is still one bed in one of them free (for just 25 euros a night!).

Please, pre-register online if you are competing. Registering at the door is conditional to having free time slots left and it's also more expensive.

Find attached a pdf with the program for worlds and the festival.

The 10-day forecast is currently sunny and 32C (90F) 22C (71F) maximum and 16C (60F) minimum. There is a chance of showers in the morning of the 18th. Let's cross fingers . . .
