Here comes the Nationals

Post by yollector »

The Nationals are in Chico California on Oct 5th.
As you know we will do everything possible to make
this as good as possible for the top contest but the top
folks have to run it / so if there is anything you need let
me Know now and we will try to get R done.
I am making a trophy for the Battletop contest (3rd
year in a row ) and it will be cool.
I hope to see you all there !

Thanks a lot for making again a battle top trophy and for asking about our needs.

I think my brain is still in Orlando ;) But I need to start thinking about nationals soon.

Dear Moderators,
Is is possible to have an event list. With so few events, the calendar function is rather cumbersome to use. A one page event list might be a nice addition. Perhaps a moderator locked sticky message would work.

A sticky list may be a good idea, although I don't like to have too many stickies. Wow, I just realized it is less than a month to nats! I added it as a "news" banner.

Last year the two major problems we had were the music and the size of the stage. Bird in Hand has two portable loudspeaker systems, but I don't know how often they are used and what is the state of their batteries. We charged one, the light indicated that it was fully charged, but it failed in the middle of the freestyles. I guess this year we need a redundant system. Perhaps somebody from Chico or California can bring a boombox with at least enough power for the stage and the immediate vicinity.

The small stage was bad for the freestyles. It also made us change the rules on the spot, what was a bad decision. Two years ago we had 3 platforms instead of 2 platforms and it was better. As they say, the more the merrier.

Something I would really like, but I don't know if it is possible, is a backdrop like the one on the main stage, which is awesome. It would be much smaller and if there is a way of supporting it we could try to raise funds to pay for one (I imagine they are not cheap). Without the backdrop the videos of the freestyles do not look as those of a national contest :(

We need a combat arena for battle tops. I think last year we bought some snow discs, which are ok, but not ideal for the importance of the event ;) I guess Alan would bring some extra battle tops so those who don't have them from previous years can buy them. And thanks to Richy we will have again a great National Battletop Trophy.

I believe poptop, Jon and Alan have said they are coming this year. SpinQueen will also come, even if we have to abduct her ;) We always have a great time at nats. I just wish it was a day longer.

Like last year, I am having problems finding a hotel in Chico, almost everything is full. I reserved a room at the Holiday Inn at a steep (not YYC discounted) rate in case I can find 1 or 2 roommates. If nobody is interested I'll probably cancel the reservation and get a room in Paradise again.

Does anybody need a ride or wants to share a ride from the Bay Area? In that case I could fly to SF. If not I'll fly to Sacramento or perhaps Chico (I will buy the ticket tomorrow night).

Wow! Thanks, I corrected it.

It is kind of scary that I could miss the date by 20 years . . . I am THAT old, I guess :-\

I have updated the US nats website: www.spintop.nationalyoyo.org

Thad is going to see what he can do about the size of the spintop "stage". He also told me that it is not be too late to make a backdrop for us, if we pay for it.
I have asked him for an idea of how much it would cost (probably a few hundred dollars). I would love to make this happen. It makes a huge difference in the photos and videos. Compare this:

to this:

It would have the National Spintop Logo, and we can make it for a generic year so we can use it again. What do you think?

well you need a curtain in the back for sure!!
how about :
buying a 10X20 ft black cloth, printing the logos or whatever on stickers, getting 2 fishing poles around 10 ft long and some string //
it would do the trick at a very low cost (round 100$)

I always wanted to go to Nationals, but its so far away, literally all the way across the US, for me anyway
Just wondering, is this a one day event?
