Re: Tops with very high center of mass
Ludo found this video of a top made with a golf ball, an ebony ball as a tip and a thin rod (looks dangerous).
Excellent! I see this same spin-down behavior in LEGO tops with this mass distribution and ball tips of the right size. Also in the fun little Torendao (sp?) from Spin Gear.
I like to ...

Re: Painting by San Antonio artist
Very cool video artifact when Figaro is raised and lowered while spinning: The spiral appears to slow a good bit on the way down. Then it speeds back up as the top is raised.
Did you raise and lower Figaro for the camera with that in mind? Guessing the slowing would occur on the upstroke if the ...

Re: An oddly satisfying centrifugal top
these rubber bands seem quite stiff
but still they do their job
Thanks! The thin, flat elastic band here is the kind used in clothing, but I found this one in some packaging. Glued 2 equal lengths together to form a balanced loop that thankfully expands pretty uniformly under centrifugal force ...

An oddly satisfying centrifugal top
I really enjoy designing, building, tweaking, and playing with LEGO centrifugal tops, and this is one of my best in a long time. Note how both rotor diameter and color layout vary with speed.

Well, that certainly is good news. You might be excited about the new riverfront park. Dedication and ribbon cutting is May 10th. They are hoping for over a thousand to cut the ribbon. They have ordered 2,000 scissors!!! In another little side note, and this is the absolute truth, a new pizza shop ...

Phenomenal skills on display here!razerface wrote: Sounds like the “spintop snipers”
Many videos. Here is one where they throw multiples, near end of video,,but not with feet. Maybe one of the other videos I did not watch.

Re: Put-and-Take with sewing kit
Gianni won this top at an auction and I'll keep it until we meet again.
It's a six-sided put-and-take teetotum, with the strange twist that it has a sewing kit inside....
I'm curious to hear theories of why they would combine a gambling top with a sewing kit!
Well, if the sewing kit has ...

Re: Kyokugoma wire walker bearing tip
Kyoku (曲) by it self means song.
But kyokugei (曲芸) means acrobatic. The gei (芸) character by itself means artistic skill or performing arts.
So, as far as I can tell, kyokugoma means acrobatic top, with perhaps a second whimsical meaning of song top.
Thanks — very interesting. Of course, no ...

Wonderful scene! The 5 women on the left are completely caught up in the top. Some appear to find it thought-provoking as well. Exactly the effects tops have on me.

Beautiful top, simple but clever walking solution.
Hope to own a top like that some day. Where does the name "kyokugoma" come from?

Excellent! The paint patterns make for very interesting video effects, and the music's a perfect match to these effects and the whipping action as well.
Agree with ta0 about whipping frequency. The choreography's quite dramatic, but landing blows on every other swing of the arms seems ...

Re: offset top
Not clear to me. The centroid of a triangle is where the medians (segment between vertex and middle of opposite side) intersect. That tip looks really close.
In fact, why would it be offset? Besides the triangle, you only have a bar divided in two by the tip: to me that's the geometric center of ...
