Did you see google today - TOPEKA
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:46:44 AM »

As you all know, Google often changes their logo to tie in with different times of the year and different things going on.  I don't know the connection for today but they are certainly using a logo that we could relate to........TOPEKA!  When I scrolled over the word it simply said "a different kind of logo".

In my mind, there should be lots of spinning in TOPeka.  They should have some nice tournaments in TOPeka.  There should be lots of battle tops in TOPeka.  Someone who competes at worlds should be from TOPeka.  Maybe when people ask me where I'm from I should say TOPeka?

Can there be a better top spinning place to be from?

Ha!  I wouldn't have noticed that Mike - I use "igoogle" so I don't see the traditional home page.  If you click on Topeka it takes you to this article:  http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/different-kind-of-company-name.html

Happy April Fools day!

Yes, I had a similar run in with a Slashdot article about the LHC. I got kind of excited about a new (albeit strange particle name) discovery. Then I looked at my calendar and thought "shame on me".

This is not a city but it is a good use of our spinning item.  My wife and I were shopping in Tipp City, Ohio and went to a toy store called “Topsy Turvy Toys.”  It was fun and they did have a few tops (but not too many).

USA Today had a list recently of great places to vacation that are within driving distance.  Guess who made the list?  Flattop Mountain in Colorado is a national park and has great trails to hike.

The basalt-capped Flat Tops are beautiful -- especially with a dusting of snow. So is the drive along this string of high buttes on CO 131.

The blanket of fast-moving runny lavas that erupted 10 million years ago to protect them from erosion now must have covered a huge area! Wouldn't have been a good time to be around.

Highly recommended when it's safe again.

I just read this article about “Little Round Top.”  It is a location in Gettysburg and was a part of the famous Civil War battle there in Pennsylvania.  Turns out there were some high winds and a large tree fell on a couple of items.  The tree smashed up a car pretty good.  911 was called and they got the tree off the car and found no one was inside.  They all breathed a sigh of relief.  Then they noticed there was also a porta potty under parts of the tree.  After closer inspection, they could hear someone in there.  Good thing they had the equipment to cut somebody out of a smashed car, because they were able to use it to cut the man out of the porta potty.  Authorities reported that he was very lucky and it was a close call.  Maybe things wouldn’t have worked out quite so well if he hadn’t been leaning to get some toilet paper?  It was not reported about his condition after being cut out and whether his pants were up or down.

TOPeka hits the news again.  There are five cities in this USA Today article about offers made for people to live in their community.  Topeka is offering up to $10,000 toward rent or $15,000 toward a home purchase.  Jimmy John’s is chipping in $1,000 for participants who relocate to one of three sandwich delivery zones in that area!!!
