Some throw tops from Italy
« on: July 27, 2019, 03:42:23 AM »

Rocco Cosca is an italian bricklayer and during his free time he likes to make spinning tops.
He has a website:

http://www.iltrottolaio.it/

He sells his tops here:

There are 7 tops at present in the shop, three pictures for each one: they are made of oak, padouk, laburnum, olive, orange tree, olive, and the seventh is downy oak.  Look at the video page too.

Nice!

This is from an orange tree. Prices range from 25 to 40 euros plus shipping.
His tips have a neck so I'm guessing he has been influenced by modern trick tops.

Here he makes spin a throw top upside down:

Two tops thrown at the same time:

Top thrown onto an electric cable.  He hit the cable and the top was spinning, but I don't know if it would be possible for the top to stay spinning on it.

Top with a particular shape:

Wow! The double simultaneous boomerang, done like that, with a top on each hand spinning in opposite direction, is a trick I don't recall seeing before!  :o  8)
I think Daveid did one but with both spinning in the same direction.
Interestingly, he seems to wrap the top in the reverse direction than usual.

I guessing that when he landed the top on the electric cable  :o he was actually trying to boomerang over it. We tried something similar in Miamisburg last year.

I like the top and tip. I’m looking forward to making tops again, on my old Craftsam outdoor free lathe. Soon I hope to upgrade to a Rikon or Jet one horse power soon. If you don’t make your own tops, and lines you are missing out in a lot of FUN.

Yes, it makes sense.  I am not practical with these kind of tops and I didn't think to it.
