yo-yo Sam purple heartwood trompo
« on: June 22, 2018, 02:53:45 PM »

About a month ago I purchased this solid purple heartwood top from https://www.yoyosam.com/collections/spin-tops/products/handmade-solid-purpleheart-wood-spin-top-small , it plays pretty well. The only problem is that the nail tip has a small bend in it giving it a slight wobble. It still can do basic regeneration's like Sewing machine, but it's not as east to work with. Any suggestions?

Put a Spintastic C tip in it.

The Yoyosam site says that it was made in Columbia. That's wrong, of course. It was made in Colombia!  ::)

hello damian
the tip on colombian tops is a long nail which goes deep into the wood
you could put it in a vice and try to straighten it

Jeremy: this photo is a good answer about the particularities of colombian tops
straight tip, solid body (not hollow),extended crown with a groove which can be used to play

good w-end

Thanks, jim! In cecil's video just above, I'm also seeing long strings and powerful throws. Makes some sense with a solid top with high mass and axial moment of inertia (AMI) but rather low AMI per unit mass.
