NEW YORK (AFP) – Punxsutawney Phil, the celebrated rodent at the center of America's quirky Groundhog Day festivities, saw his shadow Tuesday, presaging six more weeks of winter.

Yes, happy groundhog day and welcome to the board RonnieJoeAlso.  I did get a little top spinning in today, but not what I was hoping for.

I saw an interesting article in the paper about Alaska and today.  The article said that Alaska does not have any groundhogs.  I didn't realize that.  They have adopted the ground squirrel/Marmot to represent this day so they can have run with the shadow and stuff about the amount of winter left.  If we had a top spinner from Alaska on this forum I might have known this sooner!

Just for the record and because I think it is cool, back in the late 1800's there was a different tradition .... "The old bear saw his shadow"  From my great great Uncle Bert's 1894 diary --    http://bertbabcock1894.blogspot.com/2010/02/february-1-thru-2-1894.html

Thanks for the welcome!

"Do you go by Ronnie, Joe or Also?"
I usually go by Joe, but have some cousins that call me Ronnie.

I think the ground hog is probably correct about the six more weeks of winter.
