Small Spinning World
« on: July 19, 2017, 12:36:14 AM »

After Church I was doing a bit of spinning.  Rachel and I taught S. how to spin and his sister M.  While talking with their Dad about tops I found that he was familiar with tops because he was raised in the Philippines.  It turns out that the Dad is Tim Gribble who went to the same school as Joe Mauk's daughter!  You can imagine my surprise at hearing Joe's name in Smyrna Georgia.  Then again, why should I be? He IS famous right!

I haven't been on the forum for a while.  I have a bit of a breather coming up this week (having the flu helps!) so will take the opportunity to catch up on some of the forum info.  Thanks, Kirk, for sharing the great story.  Don't know about famous but a lot of you top spinners know me and most missionaries in the Philippines so we all have our circles, don't we?

Just the other day I watched all the bonus material of the "From the Top" dvd. I had to smile when I saw your first designs for the giant top and how much of a bigger project it became.
The documentary is already very good. But I can see that with some new material and a voice over it could easily be Discover Channel or National Geographic documentary.

By the way, are you ready to modify the top to make it spin more freely?  >:D

A nefarious suggestion indeed!  Are you ready to come have a look at it personally?

My cheap airfare notification service found a few low fares to the Philippines this past year. But president Duterte is not making it very appealing. :(  :-X

I do have some ideas about how to modify the top.

Can't wait to hear.  If you are not a drug dealer or political opponent you can come to the Philippines safely!  (except for earthquakes, typhoons, traffic etc.
