Wood Tops Collection
« on: December 31, 2016, 05:48:54 PM »

Hey Everyone, I'm Hai. I'm new to the forum. I've been playing with tops since I was a kid, and I've been actively collecting since college. I mostly collect wooden tops from Asia.

Here's some of what I've got so far in a display coffee table :D

Thanks Jack. I went to Japan last year and brought home wrote a haul.  I visited the spinning top museum in nagoya and the couple that still makes the Sasebo fighting tops in Sasebo.

I had a great time at both places.  They were incredibly nice and friendly.

Welcome, Hai! Wonderful collection. As a maker of LEGO finger tops, I especially like Japanese finger tops and edo koma.

Great displays!!!  It looks like you have a solid piece of glass for your coffee table.  Pretty cool.

By the way, welcome to the forum!!!

Nice collection of Japanese and Chinese tops!

Was the Sasebo shop the one discussed on this blog: Sasebo Koma?

Yep! That's the shop. It was interesting figuring out how to get there, but it was totally worth the trip. The shop owner was fantastic. She didn't speak much English, but was warm, welcoming, and so passionate about the tops she creates.

She even took us outside and taught us different techniques on throwing her tops and battling. That was amazingly fun. Even some strangers passing by joined us for some impromptu battling.

The shop looks great! I hope I can visit it one day while it is still open.

You really look happy!

Anyone: Is Sasebo on Kyushu? Hope so, as we're going there next year to visit some volcanoes of special geologic interest.

I would like photos or video of how they make the pyramid/octahedron tips, if possible.
