Another finger top...timed the build
« on: December 17, 2016, 06:48:20 PM »

Yesterday's discussion on how long it takes to make a finger top got me curious, so I timed this one: start to finish...5 hours 15 minutes total (including cure times), 2 hours 20 minutes actual shop time. Number 4 in the Stone Series: stabilized Box Elder Burl, African Blackwood, black acrylic sheet and Sonoran Sunset (man-made) stone.

Another beauty, Ed, and thanks for the shop time data. What color do the red and turquoise mix to when you spin it fast -- or take a long-exposure photo?

Thanks...the stone keeps its red/green color, even when spinning fast...maybe a little purple on the outer rim.

I would love to see a video of the entire process. Time-lapse style video would be perfect to see the entire process!

Great work!

Next time you have your still camera out, give the top a good spin and force  a long exposure -- e.g., with small aperture or very low ISO. You may see the color-mixing then. Video generally doesn't work well here.
