Interesting Larry. Your mind is always thinking. Are those edible spin tops?

I haven’t tried one yet Jim but the cardinals and blue jays sure love them.
The fruit ferments once it ages, so I seem to have a lot of drunken birds flying around at times!

wikipedia says
The fruits of all dogwood species are drupes with one or two seeds, often brightly colorful. The drupes of species in the subgenera Cornus are edible. Many are without much flavor. Cornus kousa and Cornus mas are sold commercially as edible fruit trees. The fruits of Cornus kousa have a sweet, tropical pudding like flavor in addition to hard pits

You would think, that living in the land of the dogwood festival, I would know this. No I had to wait for Jim to ask, then look it up.  The lumber is prized by Japanese top makers.

Wonderful video, Larry!

Have you experimented with different stem lengths? Guessing that there's an optimum where center of mass height, transverse moment of inertia at the tip, and finger purchase during the twirl cross.

Thanks Jeremy!

Not much experimenting in my effort.  Initially I pinched (then later cut) the stems a bit longer but they fell over immediately.
I then worked my way down in stem height to just enough stem to hold in my fingers and they all spun consistently.
I didn’t take any measurements.
