I didn't know that  Yomega made kendamas

They also seem to have someone thinking about tops (unless this is very old as it doesn't appear on their website where the kendamas and paddle balls do).  I'm not sure of the target consumers or the types of tricks possible without a proper tip.  The winding method might be interesting and may be possible with the S8 Sofia for a sort of yoyo style launch.

It is available on Amazon:  link = Yomega Smart top

I think it was discontinued years ago. I got one circa 2005.  You cannot do much with it, except that if works very well as a whip top (but you have to would have to supply your own whip).

I was very disappointed when I got one a long time ago.  Alan A said that the design was to be much more safe that hard, sharp tip tops.  You could only throw it "back hand" to the floor, no tricks, short spins.  Very frustrating!

Sadly it looks like the smart tops are being reactivated. Just contacted Yomega to urge them to bring some spin tops to market with their "rebirth". They are rereleasing the smart tops but appear to have no plans to produce real spintops.

Joel thanks for the update and your attempt to get Yomega to release some real tops.

And welcome to the forum. :)

I bought some years ago to give to kids and they didn't spin well at all.

My super secret Yomega insider tipped me off yesterday that Yomega has had a change of heart and has scrapped plans to resurrect the ill fated "Smart Top",  and is instead moving forward with developing a proper spin top.
