Buz's Woodcraft now has peg tops
« on: December 18, 2012, 06:48:10 PM »

I couldn't find a previous discussion of the top's from Buz's Woodcraft although I have a memory of it and I occasionally check his site for new things.  (Maybe my memory will seem great when I'm much older if I just make stuff up. ::) )  He had been focused on beautifully mixing woods to make one-of-a-kind finger spinners, string launched tops, and whistlers but now has included "throwing tops" loosely in the style of the BC tops.  He makes two sizes which are hollow with a wedged-in crown so the string and button store inside and has a couple different types of tips.  Perhaps someone with more web skills can snatch pictures from his site to post here

If we discussed Buz before, I don't recall.
Spellbinding work on those finger and pull tops!  The number of wood and intricacy of the work is incredible. But the prices go accordingly.

The throw tops are reasonable priced.  I may get one eventually for the collection.

I wish makers of beautiful tops would not put silly o-rings on the outside of them  :-\

Just because of looks or is there a practical reason not to have a o-ring? ???

I agree with Neff.  I cannot get o-rings off fast enough.  I know they are to cushion a fall but they also cause a top to roll away quicker and farther, often into walls and furniture.  In our fun little battles they ruin all the action by shooting the tops out of the circle.  Interestingly enough, I have left some on over in a little used area of the hall of fame and they rot off after a while!

Someone should communicate with Buz and let him know.... He may not be the kind of skilled top player who knows what sort of problems the rubber ring causes.  I remember well how bad my first throw tops were because at the time I made them I could not do anything but toss a spinner once in a  while!  ::)
