I got 6 Imperials for a church family fun night. Each had a different length string. One was only 3 feet long!  Only 1 of the 6 was long enough to turn the top. :-(
3 feet?  ??? SHAME DUNCAN!  >:(

Quote
My main top is a spintastics sidewinder the string is about 5 feet.
Five feet works but it is on the short side.  Did you cut the original string? Try a few more inches and see if you can throw harder. The ideal string length depends on the top model and the throwing technique, but not on the height of the player.

You might be living near enough to someone on this board to get some hands on instruction.  Might check that out. ???

We have cut the strings to our lengths to our shoulders.
Did you do that because you saw that on How to Be a Player Volume 2?
If so, Steve Brown and I owe you an apology, the instructions are incorrect.

Ha! An unbiased observation supporting my argument.
Is you argument that I am over correcting or that Duncan is shooting themselves in the foot? :)
I caught a few tops while waiting to pick up a friend at the airport.  I am up to about 1 catch in 10 or so.  I am starting to get the hang of balancing on my hand.
Has anyone any thoughts for how to get the top more vertical?  I am getting good turning over on the axis of the string but the point is aiming at me. Sometimes a lot.
Thanks
Kirk

A longer string would help, otherwise it may be something with your grip, your release, or your pull.  Hard to know without seeing it in person... video?

Go Kirk!  Great progress and I like the way you are monitoring that progress.  Some people hate counting like that but I have always found it very informative.  And it can better show even slight bits of improvement (plus I like the fun challenge).

Looking forward to your next report about 23 or more out of 50.
