End of an Era
« on: November 18, 2011, 06:39:00 AM »

Well I'm sad to report that I recently hit a milestone that I hoped would never come: I just broke my last Yo-yo Jam bearing tip. :( That means that it's time to retire all my YYJ tops to the display shelves. I don't want to keep using them until they are all broken. Despite YYJ's insistence that they will make more tips, I don't think it has happened yet. Thankfully, Eric has just stepped up with some modded Duncan tops for me so I still have good tops to use.

Yeah...because I was performing with them I'd order tips 20 at a time.

End of an era, indeed. For a long time YYJ tops were the top dogs of bearing kingdom (sorry BK  :P ). The emergence of S8 sealed their fate, but I had already stopped using them on freestyles because the lack of replacements. I have barely thrown YYJ in the last 3 years (except for the buldog caps on my HP  ;) ).  I may still have a few extra tips but I'll keep them to rescue orphaned tops I may find.

If I was a pro performer like you, I would just stock up on indestructible S8's (or QS's if you use any fixed tip). They are also bigger size what is good for visibility and the S8's come with the pointy tips you like.

Actually, the original impetus for developing my Duncan Bearing King S8 tip mod was so that Mark could use Duncan tops in his shows.  I have several nice ones ready for him, but as he knows, he has to come to Chicago to get them..... >:D

Marked confessed it : I'd order tips 20 at a time.
no wonder they ran out of tips !! ;D ;D
.....................
exactly like you and Jorge , both my bulldog and topdogs have been laid out for repeated weaknesses and general disabilities detrimental to their work...
we have been trying to find them a retirement scheme, considering the time of spin they have endured with no success so far ; they dutifully deserve a small pension

as for Eric's BKS8 mod , i'm sure they're Heavy Duty and do not require a retirement scheme

by the way , they look hyper cool (biG winK)

This is like when JFK was shot and when the twin towers came down.  I will always remembere where I was when when Mark's YYJ era ended!

I have the same problem, for now the only solution is a massive mod, but i don't want to put my topdog on the lathe. There is another way but for now I don't have the lathe to make this solution. Maybe one day i will make happy you and a lot of other people.
