Yesterday I saw all the childs of the neighbour with tops on hands!!!!

There are tops in the sweets-shop again, they said.

After a walking I check Trompos Cometa returns to Madrid. The selling of trompos start past friday and the trophys will start mid october.

Again, the childs are playing. And some better as I remember. Long spinning times after a hand-boomerang. One of them is triying "The lifter" and works well with crazy eights and wirewalkers. Is starting yet with lasso.

I do with them some simulations of competitions, and I spect good prices for them.

I show they the new Cobra, Azteca and Super car and are excited to get them to play better.

I am a child again... :-D

I love this post, Pulp!  It sounds like an exciting time in your town.  I wish we could get more of this excitement in Miamisburg on the weeks before our top festival.  Maybe we should try to have some big name come through to demonstrate tops a couple weeks before our event and sell some tops to local retailers?  I definitely want to up our prize money and let more people know we mean business at our top festival.  I don't know about trying to match the Duncan prize money of a $5000 scholarship back in the 60's though?

Anyway, I am happy for your Pulp.  How your next few weeks are really thrilling.  I can't wait to hear about them.

I must say, that, recently, the brand Trompos Cometa has improved the material and the quality of their tops. Some years ago, they were so easily to break. I must recognize, that some of their models are immensily beautiful.
The Tornado, The Cobra and the Diamante, are the best, in my opinion.
The super car model, is not so much of my pleasure, `cos is a bad copy of the models of the Brand Super Trompo.
Any way, Cometa has some beautiful tops.

Very bad lucky...  :-[   The first contest of Trompos cometa was near home and today, and I was at home  doing nonsenses....  :-X :-X :-X

The good news are the 1º, 2º and 4ª position of my kids. The price was a Diamante top and a soccer ball for the 1º.

I phone to the promoter chief to obtain the places of exhibition and contest. I'll try to go some and carry the kids with me at the shout "the winner take it all"  ::)

I don't recall anyone identifying the Trompos Cometa web site below.  Unfortunately I don't speak or read Spanish but the pictures and videos are a satisfying display by themselves. ;D

Perhaps some of the regular tops/yoyo/juggling outlets in the US could start carrying these.  Didn't seem like any prices listed or opportunity to order on-line. :(

Nice! I hadn't seen it before, thanks John. I imagine it is from late last year (it says copyright 2008). It is a very sleek site. I just wished it had more trick videos.

They claim they can produce 200,000 units per week!
It says the tops are made of polycarbonate with steel tips.

Ohhh!  Yes, that is a nice looking site.  Thanks johnm for pointing it out.

How bad do you want the display board shown under the tab Produccion8) 8)

With examples of all the top models hanging from the poster, it seems like a great sales technique "try before you buy" for small shops, etc.  I think the display would be great interactive art for home, office, and Hall of Fame. ;D

i googled that site a while ago and assumed everyone here knew of it. i didn't take a long look at the models because i knew i would never own one. :(

i'm trying really hard not to be a collector and just a player but i find it very hard not to do both. i guess you can't be one without becoming the other.

I agree, by simply trying different tools, a collection can be assembled with no intention of collecting.  If we follow the advice of ARACNOCTAMBULO
QuoteResuming, I reccomend to play so many differents tops as you can. This will make you a better player.
to become better players we should practice with every option available to us.  For me, advice from a master like him is a good excuse to try different tops which will result in an unintentional collection.

Sorry to be an enabler. ;)

Next monday 12 October 2009 at 18:30 h. there are an exhibition and contest of trompos cometa near home.

Cometa contest

I'll try to speak with the cometa people and film the contest. I'll pay a beer for everybody. "Ronda de cervezas hasta que se acabe el duro". :-D

I tell you this in all seriousness. It is better NOT to become a collector. Better for your finances and better for your marriage. At least do not get into that thing called Ebay . . . Once the Priority Mail packages start arriving and you feel you have to hide them from you spouse you are in trouble . . .  (Do as I say, not as I do  :) )

Hey pals!

Yesterday was a memorable day.

We, the neigbour childrens and me went to a first contest. More than 30 childs playing tops. And some fathers too.

The Cometa crew delay a bit and we play some. In a while the contest star and 3 of my kids were champions of the day. A soccer ball and some tops was obtained.

Just in the middle of the contest, performed by Omar, appera Salvador de la Rosa, an old friend. He told me about another contest few streets far.

Running with a bit of fear by the kids, arrived to the second contest. More than 60 childs playing.
The last time probe was spectacular with more than twelve tops spinning and spinning and never stopping.

Was very difficult to win, a kid of my neigbour win twice. The others had bad luck and the trompos fall into grooves of the floor and other unsuccesfull things.

They return to home with the parents of his friends and I can invite to all the Cometa crew to spanish beer. We speak a lot about trompos, Mexico and Spain, curious histories about his jobs and more.

Today the kids are becoming very competitive, and I must learn new tricks to hold my position. Back boomerang to frontal lasso, front to back lasso, Magnetics wires and more.

I am really happy, and I hope to find new contest to the kids.... and me. :-D

Video soon.

Those are wonderful news, Pulp! I am amazed that you already feel challenged by the kids.

It seems the demonstrator-touring and neighborhood-contest formula continues to be valid. I wonder if the downturn in Spain's economy hurts sales or helps as the parents are less likely to buy Wii's and Nintendo DS's.

Do you know how Baldufado's sons are progressing? They must be winning some of these contests!
