Great Cincy team! Seven players!  :o That is wonderful!

I met Patrick (he is in the Figaro Gallery), Bryan and John, of course, but the rest are unknown. Can they all throw the big tops? Figaro may need to visit Cincy again . . .

Great picture of a great group.  There are still several I haven't met!

And, of course, JohnM makes eight.

As the Earl said, there are eight of us including me (I'm represented in the photo by my top spinning on the floor with the cap just in frame at the bottom near the center  ::) )  There are three undergrads that joined us outside on one occassion so they may also get roped (stringed  ???) in sometime.  Six of us have thrown the big tops and with a winter's worth of practice, everyone should be ready in sping to meet Autograph.  Everyone would enjoy seeing Figaro and his master!

bearing Mercurio
« Reply #48 on: November 30, 2011, 06:57:56 AM »

Did I read correctly that there is only a fixed tip version of the Mercurio?  Or is a bearing version available?
Only fixed tip. The technology has its limitations, like not being able to make the bearing well (I think).

I haven't studied all the issues to add a bearing to the Mercurio, but it seems the tip requires enough bulk to match to the body such that a bearing system similar to the Estrellas Turbo could work.  An insert that glues to the body could have the female thread inside the body to accept the threaded rod and a 'pin' outside the body onto which a single bearing could be pressed.  A 'hollowed out' tip could then be pressed onto the outside of the bearing.  Gluing the insert eliminates the cap dialing balance tuning option but the tops seem rather well balanced for most cap positions and a little putty is common practice for that problem.

I got home from a family trip yesterday to find my Mecurio tops.  ;D

Played a little last night and a fair bit more today after modding the tip to thin the neck and reprofile the convex part (funky bulge).  It's a pretty fast player, definately good fun.

FWIW, mine came with weight dial + locknuts for shifting cog, all of which I removed after a few throws and befopre playing the "new" tip.  I'm inclined to put it back in to raise the center of gravity...to accomodate a bit more string length.  (I'm thinking it might precess a bit slower too--wondering what others have to say about this?)

Big thanks to Ta0 and Trompos Space!

(We do love the bonus goodies too!  Thanks)
