Hi guys,

A few of my kids at the school are left handed throwers and are having problems with unraveling string.
Last year Neff gave me a lefty string (donated by Apex?) for one of my young players but I could sure use some more as I have other left handed players who are having the same issues.

Any help would be appreciated.  :-*

I didn't realize that string tension was an issue with spintops. I was always taught to wind the top without the button in my hand so that it never got twisted.

What causes it to unravel? I kinda assumed it was a bit like 5a Yoyo where it just kinda took care of itself mostly.

I can show you how to make some with a drill, but prolly not as quickly as you want them.

If you don't get any better offers, i can prolly make a few next week.  Mine never turned out as good as Apex's tho.

im left handed and when it comes to right hand wound string, i have a trick. when wrapping the top, after going around the crown, when you go to wrap it around the tip, wait, twist the string a couple of times, in a tightening direction and then proceed to start wrapping it around the tip. if you do this with a new string it will stay perfect. if the string already is loose, just twist until it looks and feels right and then wrap the tip. i hope this helps. the best thing to do is make or get the string made for lefty's but there are not many people doing it these days.

I make my own string after watching a video on YouTube on making string. It's very easy to do and it doesn't take long. My guess is to make lefty string is to wind it counter clock wise

i'm left handed, i always found it easier to just learn to do things right handed... that's how i went with tops and pretty much everything besides writing... i don't think i know any left handers that do absolutely everything with their left hand... then again if i were a young child labelled as lefty, and interested in tops, there's no way i would've thrown right handed.

if you wrap it for righthanded, as you wrap it around the top, the string will tighten and if it's been overtightened it'll unwind back to it's original or near enough to it's original state, and if you wrap it for left handed, just the wrapping it around the top, it unwinds and doesn't wind back up to it's original state... you need to pull tight for it to be a good wrap... lefty unwinds unless you go way out of your way to make sure you're not unwinding it and pulling tight while making sure it's not unwinding too much takes too much paying attention, can't be done in seven seconds...

i can't think how to put it in words...

wrap a top lefthanded a few times and you'll probably be able to see what the problem is a lot more clearly than i will ever be able to describe with words.

didn't Mr. Neff have a pretty clear tutorial video on making string?
like I always say:dead monkeys don't fly on sticks.

Got it thanks

Oiy!

Makin' Spin Top String

One thing I don't show in the video is to reverse-wind it at the end to make it nice and tight.

Apex showed me his method at Worlds, it's a little complicated, but marvelous.  I hope he has a chance to do a video.

If poptop can't fill your order Spin Queen lemme know.
