Watching the birth of your new top will be very exciting (and instructive), Alan! Does it have a name already or will you let the winner name it?

The other prizes are worth the tickets. The 5th prize is huge. The Acrobat originally sold for $100 and was part of a limited production that is sold out, probably never to be made again.  This top donated by Larry D. is new, never used! Yoyofactory is the premier name in yo-yos dominating the high performance market and competition circuit. The owner, Yohans, is a player and big collector of tops.  He personally designed this top to be "undeniable". The Acrobat and the Throwback are the only tops ever made by Yoyofactory.

I bet if you display the Krishna tops in your living room any visitors will want to spin them.  Guaranteed to improve your Karma!

We have reached the original very ambitious INEPTT funding goal, yeah!    As stated on the announcement, most of the money collected on this raffle will go to a second spintop promotion project.  The committee would have liked to have the second project determined before the start of this raffle, but it was not possible. However, there is a real possibility that we will be able to bring a Mexican professional player to worlds this year! 

Marco Palma, a.k.a. "Cuper" will be applying for a US visa next week and we are crossing our fingers.  This would be the first time one of the professional Mexican players comes to Worlds.  Cuper is not only a demonstrator but a designer and manufacturer of tops (Trompos Cuper). If you have not seen it yet, watch this great regeneration ran, almost a tutorial, he did using a Cuper 360 (with my logo on the crown! ) It would be great if he could give a workshop at worlds on some of these tricks.  You can read a good newspaper article about Marco (in Spanish) here.  Cuper is the owner of the amazing trompomóvil!

If the current raffle sells out, as we hope it will, we will have just enough money to sponsor him. So if Alan's top and the rest of the prizes are not incentive enough, here is another great reason to buy a ticket.

Yes, balero in this case refers to the cup-and-ball game.  According to Wikipedia it had its origins in Mexico in the sixteenth century but was very popular in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries.

It is interesting that spintops are more successful than yo-yos in Mexico while in the States it is the reverse.  I wonder if there is some cultural thing behind that or it is simply a historical accident.   Perhaps it has to do with Mexican kids still getting together in the streets to play while in the US kids, outside of organized sports, play by themselves in their homes?

The making of Alan's top is fascinating! It is inspiring all the craftsmanship that goes into making something that is at the same time perfect spinning machine and a work of art.  The lucky winner will also have a unique documentation of its birth.  By the way, after the raffle is over I will separate Alan's posts into its own thread in the Modding and Collecting board.
