have any of us tried regenerating two tops at the same time? not keeping them in play, just keeping them spinning? like setting one spinning on a plate or just the floor or just setting it spinning somewhere and then picking up a second top and regenerating it for a few rotations and then setting it somewhere (floor or plate or flat hard surface) and going back to the first one, and just going back and forth regenerating each for a few seconds and then moving back to the other and so on back and forth... keeping two tops spinning for as long as possible...
has this been done? or discussed and i just missed it?
and if two is comfortable over long periods then three? how many can you keep going for five minutes? or ten? or an hour? can you keep two tops going for an hour Mr. Hout? Mr. Alcoz (is that spelled right?)?
anyone else?

I haven't done it, but I've thought about it... not in an endurance sense, but in a; "how could I make this look cool on stage?" kinda way.

I bet Jon Gates has mwssed with it...

That sounds like a great idea, daveid, and lots of fun. No, I don't think we have discussed it before, at least at length.  I guess restarting a top with a snap-start would not count (or Rascals would have the record).

I can see a contest between two players. The match lasts 10 minutes and on every full minute whichever has the most tops spinning scores a point. Would that work for your topland, Mike?

I assume whiptops would not qualify  ;D ;D   Maybe a different contest for them?

Well. is a good thing the differentiation you do.

Two tops continuing spinning is too easy. Do a lazada, then let one top fall in the floor, and then, take another top, do the same, recover the first one, with a rocket, lazalo, and then, the cicle is repeated again and again.
But with the time, it will be boring.

The another thing indeed is a real challenge! :'(

hi all

i agree with salvador : besides the endurance aspect , it might  be boring for seasoned players

we 've used one big top as an hour glass during  stage shows with Lapin :
at the rehearsals it would give us 1. 40 to 2 mn of "suspended" spintime
while we would do a number of tricks... the idea was to dramatize the fact that we had to finish the routine before the big top would go mad

but after a few tries a friend told us that the audience paid more attention to the big top on the floor than to our act

apart from that , using 2 tops  for tricks , with regenerations in between
is very teasing...with 2 different colours the evil and the good top
i can foresee many possibilities , with a bit of talk and some props "à la " john higby

jim

DaveiD : what don't you give it a try ?? :o :o

I put my Christmas monobolo to work today with the one Jorge gave me.  I kept these two going for five minutes as spinning tops.  I'm not that fast at revving them up and putting them back down but I think I could keep them going for a bit like this.

Which one did you get? Another Sundia? A UFO Yo-Yo? Or did you get a more traditional one?

I got another Sundia.  Of course, the tip is bigger for top spinning (as it is a newer model) but now I have found that the string sometimes tangles on that tip!

Today was my day off.  Often I try to do something I normally can't find time to try so today I took out my ta0 Sundia monobolo, my Christmas monobolo and something else I didn't tell you about Jorge.  I got a second Sundia monobolo for Christmas from my wife.  She knows what I like.  I never thought about using them all at the same time until that meany Daveid threw that challenge out.

It was a little harder to get the three spinning (at the same time) than I thought it would be.  My record was something like 15 seconds for several attempts.  I finally broke a minute and once had a 3 1/2 minute run but I was very inconsistent.  As you might guess, there is quite a big difference between two and three tops.  Eventually I smoothed out a few things and had a run of five minutes and 45 seconds.....and I was lucky on that one as I had several near disasters.

So you have 3 Sundias now?  :o You are a man who always likes to go all the way!

I think I should better start practicing with my monobolos . . .

I will be willing to bet that I still don't have as many monobolos as you have!!!

After many attempts I finally beat that five minute mark.  There was a lot of snow falling so they canceled all the after school activities which means I had full use of the nice flat cement floor upstairs in the gym.  I had several failures again today but finally got beyond my old best and made it to 9:29.  Rats, I almost got to ten minutes but there are so many things that can go wrong with three monobolos spinning at the same time.

Is this enough for you Daveid or do you have some other maniacal challenge to drive me crazy?
