Title: Spin-It-Up French toy
Post by: lincolnrick on April 15, 2015, 10:40:32 AM
[Admin note: split from this thread: interesting contest (http://www.ta0.com/forum/index.php/topic,3827.msg39362.html#msg39362)]

One page three there was a quick reference to a site http://www.spin-it-up.com/ (http://www.spin-it-up.com/), that had an interesting toy where you spun little tops using the top of a bigger top.  Watch the cute video to see what I mean.   :D

Yeah, that is nice:

Invented by Christian LALOYE and made in France. Unfortunately, at 49 euros for the kit (including the large plate) it is pretty expensive.

My friend at the juggling club does something that is similar, but not exactly the same.  He has a one-cup diabolo (a monobolo?) that he wraps with a rope, and throws like a top, to spin on the floor.  It spins quite well!

Then he drops the top part of an old Duncan Twin Spin top into the spinning monobolo cup.  The Twin Spin half chatters around and around in the cup for a bit, being spun as it does so, and then flies out and onto the floor....where it spins on its own tip.  Very cool to watch!

I can't remember whether he drops the top in upside down, or right side up....but I know it makes a difference....

Reminds me of rascals.  Mike and Mark have enough rascals and a lathe ... Hmmm...
