Yeah! I think I will be able to make it again this year. Val and Dale said goodbye at worlds with a "see you at nats!", so they should be there, as well as Alan and Spin Queen. I expect poptop to try to win the nats title, he has a good chance. Hey, Topper, can you drive or get a ride to Chico this year?

Hey Jorge,
Will Mark be there this year with
a battletop Trophy ?

Sounds like a good crowd.  Like Jim in Paris, I will be home dreaming of attending some year.  Hope all the top spinning activities go well.

I can't make it this year, so Richie knock yourself out with the trophy! I'll be sad to miss it, but I'll be doing a solo show in NYC. As good a reason as any to miss it i guess. Let's just assume that i would've won the top contest ;)

That this mean that I will win the first ever Richy trophy for the UBU?  Considering my past performances at battles, the answer is probably not  :(

Anyway, I am sure Richy's trophy will be awesome.  And we will miss you, Mark!

Oops! I must be getting to closer to Mike's age!  This would be the 2nd Richy's trophy for UBU.  Last year we had this one:

How could I forget such a gory trophy?  :o

I'll be there, what is the competition format?

I'll be there, what is the competition format?
Yippee!!!
I bought my plane ticket Friday night (I am getting to Sacramento that Friday at 2PM).

The format should be the same as worlds, 3 minutes freestyle, any top can be used (but Alan should confirm).
As the last couple of years, it will be on a wooden stage in a grassy area across the plaza from the main stage.

Have fun with those battles.  I look forward to seeing the new trophy.  This old man will wait patiently for ta0 to catch up to me in age.

Sounds great, are we to bring our own battle tops or will there be battle tops available for sale at the time of battle?

Alan is moving to Denver?   With Jon and mtntop already there (is Darren back?) that city will continue to be a hotbed for spintop play!  I think it would be a prime location for a regional spintop contest. Actually, they already have one together with yo-yos, but it is on the street with very little grass available.   I say a spintop only event at a park . . .  I would come.

Unfortunately Alan confirmed that he will not come to nats.  :( Neither will Takeshi, it seems :(
They will be missed but we will try to have a great nats, anyway.

I don't know yet if Alan can send us some tops for battle (for those who don't have them).  If not we will find an alternative.

I have down for freestyles at least poptop, SirBoot32 and SpinQueen  ;), so it should be interesting.   Dale and I can be the judges.

Alan confirmed he will be sending some battle tops for those who do not have one from past years to purchase and compete.  By the way, he sent a couple dozen to Kyo for his wedding reception (that must be a first!)     8)

I predict a third place finish for Boot. Especially considering some of the first tricks I learned were from watching SpinQueen and Poptop's imperial challenge. It was the top I owned at the time so their video gave me hope. If you have not seen it:

The Other Duncan Imperial Challenge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiJKv6CBKEE#)

Warning, it might contain too much awesome for some people to handle.

I hear SirBoot32 is already in the neighborhood of Chico  :)

Last year we talked about changing the rules for battle.  Specifically, Spin Queen proposed these rules:

1 point   Hit the chump top (always by direct hit) chump top stays in, your top goes out
2 points  hit the chump top both tops stay in "spinning"
3 points  knock both your own top and the chump top out of arena
4 points  knock chump top out of arena and your top stays in "spinning"
5 points  Knock cap off of chump top

In addition, she proposed placing the arena over a hard surface (instead of the grass) so we could see if the top continued spinning (and only then it would count).  She also proposed being able to scoop that top for a bomb throw, what I think is an interesting idea.  For more of this discussion read this:  link (http://www.ta0.com/forum/index.php/topic,1828.0.html).  Also click on the link if you are debating about going: you will see how much fun we had last year.

Oh, and I think a tour of Richy's museum is in order for those who have not been there  . . .  ;)

I'm coming solo this year, (no better half) and I'm not sure any of my kids will make it up either.  I almost didn't find a room since Chico has other events going on that weekend.  Thanks to McBride via facebook, I was able to find a room at the motel 6 (near the Holiday Inn) for Saturday night, so I'll be driving up early saturday morning.  Sounds like there is going to minimal group of us this year but we all know how to have a good time  >:D >:D >:D >:D

p.s.  I spoke to Val recently and I think that only Dale will be there

Alan e-mailed me and is going to send me
10 battletops for sale (10.00 each ) We need
to supply our own bottle caps / so if you have a top
from past years bring it so we have enough.

Glad to hear the battletops will be available for sale.  Sounds like the big battle is on!  I wish I could be there.  Hope you all have a great time.  I can't wait to hear more about it.

Congrats on bringing a new Neffy to the world! You may not be able to spin tops much for a while, but he/she will spin you for sure!   ;D  And with some luck you will eventually have more excuses to get skill toys!  ;)

Hey, Boots, do you have your whip top with you?  If you don't, I may try to tow mine, but I would still need a whip stick.

I should be hanging out at Bird in Hand/Yo-yo Museum Friday evening.

I'll also bring a kongzhu.  We'll make some noise  :D

Glad to hear the tops arrived safely. I will miss not being there this year. Hope everyone has as much fun as it is every year. The weather forecast looks great.
Good luck to all the competitors. Richy has a good chance at the battle top contest this year.

Richy may have a good chance but, from past experience, I probably need to battle against myself to win  . . .  :(

Tomorrow in Chico: yeah!!!!  :)  8)

I'm planning to drive up early barring any unforseen complications.  But my life is fraught with complications...

I just missed a flight home, but should still get back to Cali tonight. :'(
