Title: Eyyc 2017 (video added)
Post by: Attila on January 06, 2017, 03:39:45 PM
Hey everyone!
So I'm planning on going to the eyyc this year but I know very little about it. I more or less figured out how to get there but in the registration i saw that there is a champion dvision and a non champion division. So is the champion division for the veterans and as a newbie I should go for the non champion divison? Also I'm open for any tips in anything from travelling to performing on the stage I would really appreciate any help from you guys :)
Thanks a lot for your answers  ;D

It is great that you are coming to Bratislava  :)

Check this website section (http://eyyc17.com/contest/divisions/) where is described difference between championship and non-championship divisions. Spintop is championship division. This year it seems that there will be 3 combo format.

According to rules we need at least 5 competitors for spintop division to be opened.

That is wonderful! I really hope there are enough competitors. Would Jan compete?
Would it help if ITSA offered a little prize to the first three or five to place? It could convince some of the guys that will go anyway for yo-yo to compete in tops.

Thanks for your answers :)
So it says I have 3 throws. Should I come up with3 different combos or repeat one and hope I don't mess up? :D
Also how long should a combo be?
And when do I pay the entry fee? If I registered before the 31 January I pay it in Bratislava or on the Internet?
I hope I'm not a pain on the neck with my questions and looking forward to your help :)

Check this website section (http://eyyc17.com/contest/divisions/) .........
This is the best explanation of the Yo-Yo divisions that I have seen anywhere.

I believe they are now adding the points of all three throws. I think there is a maximum of 90 seconds if you do not lose the top before that time.

If all throws count, the three combos should be different or you will get less points because of repetition.
If the best two count, you can repeat one.  Or, if you are already happy with your first two throws, you can attempt a very risky one for last.
If only the best throw counts, you could repeat the combo every time.

Hroch should confirm all these as I imagine he is in charge of the rules.

ta0: I'm not sure if some ITSA prize convince yoyo players to compete so it is up to ITSA. Jan told me that he might refresh spintop skills.

I'm actually not in charge of the rules but I've asked organizers and I think that all 3 combos counts.

MyYo: Looking forward to see you and to see new top!  :)

Attila: You pay registration fee in Bratislava  ;)
Title: Announcing PRIZES for EYYC17 !!!
Post by: ta0 on January 11, 2017, 10:30:57 AM
ITSA and Strummol8 will be offering prizes to the FIRST FIVE competitors at the European spintop contest!
The prizes will be Giulias or STB2.5 !!!
That is right, compete at EYYC17, place among the first five places, and you will go home with a brand new S8 top!
We do expect the competitors to become ITSA members but I don't know if we will require it.

ITSA is buying them at or below cost, so thanks a lot to Strummol8 and Maurizio!!!

PS: I don't know if these prizes can be announced officially during the competition as S8 is probably not an official sponsor of EYYC. But Maurizio will be there to hand the tops to the winners.

It's great news!! I'm talking to organizers about that so I hope they'll mention it somewhere. ITSA created EYYC17 spintop event on FB so it should be mentioned also there  :)

Here's link for live stream:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCayP8KvWWNRvSGoEfLoRceQ/live

Spintop division is on Saturday at 3 PM, awards ceremony at 7.30 PM, GMT+1.
Complete schedule here: http://eyyc17.com/about/schedule/

We have 6 competitors (http://eyyc17.com/contest/registered-contestants/#tableid9), which is pretty good. And as you probably know, we use the new rules for 3 throws.

That was really great!  8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Congratulations all! Specially the new freestyle competitors: Attila, Christophe and Tomas!

Because of connection problems, I missed the first few routines and some of the last, so I don't know who had the best two routines. But I saw some really good ones. I look forward to watching the whole set.

Well done everybody!

And the results are:

1. Daniel Konecny
2. Jan Kloubec
3. Jakub Konecny
4. Attila Olah
5. Tomas Veznik
6. Christophe Mermilliod

I'm not sure about the rest, they haven't posted it yet. Edited, results are complete. And it's sad that the stream failed that many times. Anyway, there will be high quality videos for sure.

Congratulations Daniel !!!

I thought your first two routines clearly won it. If this is a preview of worlds . . .  ;)
The placement order was the one I had (just from watching them, without scoring them)
Jan did great, with very few misses. I wonder if the rescue bounce was given the full score of a floor bounce trick.
Jakub had several innovative tricks there. I loved his fully back sun.
Attila was a big guy playing with a small top. ;D  With the S8 he won his freestyle will easy get even better in the future!
I need to start doing Tomorex behind the neck staircase-to-heaven! He has improved a lot since I met him in Prague.
Mer-mouille has good level already and great future.

Well done guys!

Thanks to Strummbol8 for teaming with ITSA in providing the prizes. And great idea, Maurizio, to include all six, they all deserved it!
I believe first place got a custom dye job on his Giulia. A photo?

AGAIN : SUPER BRAVO to all players

that said I don't think that this format can be valid for worlds

there are several statements that I'd like to develop :

read:

this format restricts the creativity of players

A it's better to have a freestyle tuned to a personal soundtrack I mean edited music like in figure-skating or team-kite competitions

you can plan tricks which go with the music,
dramatize a sequence, use silence to enhance a trick ...etc

the 3 round format only exploits regen tricks which are only 20% of spintop play in the world

B this format excludes de-facto big tops/ accessories because of the time limit

very bad!

C

when on stage you should be alone* FACT

it won't be like that in ICeland, I hope

jim

Don't worry, Jim. Nobody has proposed this format for worlds. The World Contest will continue to be 3 minutes freestyle to your own music.  :)

I enjoyed very much watching the routines again from a different angle.

I could see the clock facing the judges: was there another one for the players? Jan was the only one who went over the minute allowed. Daniel gave up just 5 seconds but Jakub used less than what he could have.

I liked Attila's style, trying a routine with one arm behind the back. He looked at ease, not like this was his first time freestyling. You could tell by the tricks that he learned from the Mexicans. Was he using a Cometa King Cobra?
The "free-hand" Mach 5 of Jakub I think is new on a freestyle. It is a pity he missed 3 times that yo-yo trapeze trick. But he did some difficult stuff. Finishing each routine by catching the top behind the back was unique.
Daniel always looked in control, like he could not miss. The around-both-arms are difficult and he made it look easy. Ha, I think he did some drum rolls! (I never did on a freestyle) ;)

Very nice custom dye on that Giulia! I love it! Can you take the mini metal top from the glass bubble and spin it?

The photo of Jan and Jakub throwing high trapezes by the river (Danube?) could be entered in the photo contest.

ta0: The trick I missed 3 times should have been a triangl. I've hit this trick almost everytime during practice  :D

You are right, Atilla was using Cometa King Cobra (bearing).

Clock was just for audience and judges.

Photo with Jan is taken on DevĂn Castle and the river is Danube  ;)

Actually my top was a Cometa King Turbo but I think this was the last time I entered a competition with a Cometa now that I had a taste of Strummol8 tops :D I'm looking forward to buying some more of those. I'm going to have to get used to the longer string Daniel gave me (thanks again Daniel :) ), maybe I should stick to the length I used up until now and use the longer one for regeneration tricks. Any tips on that? :D

I would like to thank Mauricio for the prize and for the quick replacement bearings after I managed to brake one of them after a few throws! :D Thanks to Daniel and Jakub for replacing them! Thanks to everyone here for supporting me! And thanks for Christophe and the others for letting me play with their tops :D

Hi all

I just wanted to thank Maurizio again for his timeless support

in fact all players used S8 except Attila >:D

if only you could see Mer-mouille's S8 : it's scratched from top to  bottom, with severe scars all over ... still plays well

 ;)

Attila: you did great with the big top (looks like a JohnM rotomold) and the chonkakegoma! You are a fast learner! With respect to the length of string, I think you will have more trouble adapting to the regen tricks than non regen tricks. But you will soon feel comfortable.

I did not mention Christophe's (Mer-mouille's) T-shirt: I want one!  ;D

Jorge: I would say that behind the back stuff are way harder, no matter how much I practice them. I can nail around both arms without problems (also did on most of the freestyles in my life) but I missed behind the back tricks so many times on stage. :D
And the small top cannot be put out of the bubble or I just wasn't trying hard enough. But it would probably destroy it, so I'm going to leave this one on the shelf.

About the time restriction, we need to have some way of informing players that one minute passed. The only think that sounds reasonable to me is the commentator saying "Time." after one minute.

Attila: That string is about 180-190 cm long. We use this length normally but for now I would recommend you using 160-170 cm to get used to it and when you are comfortable with it and want to have your top spinning even faster (and also do some crazy corkscrew variations), use a bit longer one. I would only use one length of strings for all the tricks, it will make your play more consistent. But bear in mind that longer strings can always mess up some of your tricks, because they get easily caught somewhere bad.

Mouy actually said that he wanted to compete with new Giulia (almost without scratches) but he forgot that one at home, so he had only the old one Jim is talking about. We have some of our Giulias pretty damaged too but they're still spinning great. Quality of Strummol8 tops is just amazing.

Maybe my memory fails me, but I think I recall Jakub (who invented the trick) and you missing the double around the arm more than other tricks. I do the around-one-arm, but I need to practice the double arm.

Hi everyones, just for the fun here are the 2 giulia I have, as Daniel says, I played with my old one because I simply forgot the new one at home, as well as the modified QSH I've practiced the weeks before championship... :-[
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/dSV8pTkM2HQGhxnEskdLmO81WebXRs2gAT3ei4sCNHAcwTk97oDEfPnKXqBTlEy-tgga_nYVCl7kVp_ZIRQmnlQcb8SCsxrlcLZTN33SKOxVpPgsQSCkLHbaE8kPUpOmC8HASSNf1JkpWSxyTXKaTXYHKrEGL9bD_ctbv7dnWtT9uhNRBRXh-iLpmflgj681NfL2mI6hN1XfeZyLRa5dqO9bN5rz3NBrWlr_aLHG0erGM027N36mTdFhvu6XbX-nU4bFWqHPp9KmhEr6OpGeBdZaepykjtK1IxLVFPWlf_7FVg9uys6pKHcJ7F2rU00mwMIv0tegiO_iMmTDhpBbJYczdgiTZ8uE7Zk53Y8boLE042_ZC_PkPiLcM35bvs5QTolvxFpAFf9kxmO1MFI8icWnwEfiQ0RSqf_T-ko8jQsWh0nkrcb4UrfSTE0p8-CpkuMbybTWPGCoXmvi-eavisyZyoEBFxgO9dLQ4KQxOyb2Jqw3NViCtGUIW2ZBPTjdkaJfdJYdT06efoznYwfQt6BdXM5Ouy8fy70q7pFcFQaa1gdyQDK2jQgUubKhYlZeOTG-cyN411XPw6h67f15FB2DBlqK5r6c7FtWR-BMatU4zv2JAxPL=w1170-h877-no)
As mentionned before, Giulia, scratched or not works in any case, I had just to put a new bearing and it works like new!
I was more disapointed by the QSH, I borrowed from Emmanuel, the cap weight change a lot... But that's not really the reason of my fail...
About the t-Shirt, I should see Dorian tonight I can ask if he still have any, but I doubt about this...

jim: That would be a really big help I was looking around and even one of my teachers offered her help in finding a cheap flight to Iceland (according to her if she can't find a cheap flight then no one can :D) I should be able to save up enough money and get a passport before the Worlds so fingers crossed.

ta0: yes 5 is the highest grade so I'm really happy with it. I was even asked to write an article about the trip for the school's newspaper but that might raise more attention than I need right now :D
